Description

About the Book

A.W. Tozer breaks down common misconceptions about who prophets are and what they do, revealing that their primary role today--as it was in the Bible--is to proclaim God's truth to believers, leaders, and culture.

Book Synopsis

During his ministry, which included extended pastorates in Chicago and Toronto, Dr. Tozer was often referred to as a prophet. That doesn't mean he predicted future events, but rather he spoke God's truth to believers and the culture, even if it meant disrupting the status quo. Even in the Bible, prophets were much more likely to hold God's people and their leaders accountable to the truth of God's Word than to foretell the future. The encouragement in Voice of a Prophet is that the church today is in desperate need of the kind of prophet Tozer embodied and describes in this important book. Using the lives of such prophets as Elijah, Elisha, and John the Baptist, Tozer underscores the importance of the ministry of the prophet in our world today.

From the Back Cover

When A.W. Tozer was a young preacher newly ordained into the ministry, he wrote a prayer that he published 30 years later under the title "The Prayer of a Minor Prophet." Fifty years after his death, Dr. Tozer's prophetic writings and sermons continue to deliver God's Word to His people. The test of a prophet is that his message transcends generations; even when he is gone, a prophet's message remains fresh and vital.
In "Voice of a Prophet," a never-before-published collection of writings, Dr. Tozer examines the lives and ministries of such biblical prophets as Elijah, Elisha and John the Baptist. A prophet is uniquely called by God; he never volunteers for the job, but his prophetic role in ministry for today's Church is an utter necessity.

About the Author

A number of biblical errors in this book

This book was complied & edited by someone who is not Tozer; I’m not sure what “edited” implies, but there are a number of biblically inaccurate things in this book. I haven’t even finished reading it, nor will I. These things don’t seem to have been written with ill intent, rather it seems they were written simply out of ignorance/lack of knowledge. Regardless, there are a number of statements made that are not true. To me, it doesn’t even really sound like Tozer based on other things I’ve read. I would not recommend this book.
