About the Book
A charming story which encourages children to look more closely at the bugs and animals around them; from the creator of USBBY-honored A Year in Our New GardenBook Synopsis
Luke and Marion go for a walk to the pond with their cousin on a bright sunny day, spotting lots of animals on the way. But when they get there, it starts to rain. The twins love splashing about in the puddles, but the animals are nowhere to be seen! Where do they go when it rains?
The insects take shelter in the grass and leaves, while the ducklings huddle under their mothers wings. But the pigs are having fun rolling around in the mud in the farmyard! Young readers will love to spot the details in Gerda Muller's illustrations as they discover which animals love the rain as much as the twins, and which hide away until it passes.
From the creator of USBBY-honored A Year in our New Garden, this tenth anniversary edition of Where Do They Go When it Rains will delight young nature lovers.
Review Quotes
Praise for Gerda Muller:
'Unpredictable, stimulating and ultimately confidence-inducing ... Gerda Muller draws each activity and animal with great detail and attention.'
- The New York Times on A Year Around the Great Oak
'Realistic, delicate paintings use pattern, light and soft colors to track nature's transformation of the old oak tree during a single year in an innocent style reminiscent of Barbara Cooney. Simplified natural details of individual plants, birds and animals invite close inspection, while holistic scenes of the oak evoke an idyllic seasonal atmosphere. A charming celebration of the changing seasons.'

'The beautifully detailed paintings invite close inspection as the seasons change'
