Our teas are purposefully formulated drawing on the traditional use of herbs and Ayurvedic and ancient healing systems. Licorice root (Glycyrrhiza glabra L.) preparations have been safely consumed since the third century. Today, licorice is commonly used in herbal supplements and teas, as well as to flavor candy and other foods. Although Yogi teas generally contain less licorice root than would be considered the standard dose in traditional herbal medicine, (that is, 1,000 – 5,000 mg, consumed 3 times per day, for up to 4 to 6 weeks), we take a conservative approach to individual health. Therefore, Yogi teas that contain licorice root do carry warnings. At higher doses and with long term use, licorice root is contraindicated for use by pregnant and lactating women, and for those with medical conditions, including high blood pressure. Also, high doses or long term use of licorice root may potentiate potassium depletion, cause sodium retention, and interact with certain medications. We’re happy to hear that you enjoy our Cinnamon Vanilla Healthy Skin tea. This particular tea contains 80 mg licorice root per tea bag. Please note that this tea carries a warning which states to consult your healthcare provider prior to use if you are pregnant or nursing, taking any medication, or if you have a medical condition.
