Connectivity challeneges- not ideal for a child
We had two purchased go my daughter from her grandparents, one to go in each home. These players have caused nothing but chaos. She takes one to school for quiet time and it will stop working seemingly since it is offline. As you can imagine this interrupts quiet time. The player randomly goes offline, thus I need to log in and out of the app frequently to keep it working. A child's patience for troubleshooting is rather small as I am sure you can appreciate. Additionally, You cannot record songs from the radio or apps like is described- goes against copyright infringements which makes sense, but should be called out. Her favorite songs are not available on Yoto cards and we can't record them. So we spend a considerable amount of time keeping this player online and managing expectations around the limited song/story choices. I would have selected another product having known this. When I've inquired with the product team, the responses are generic and uninformative.... such as ensure the correct software version is being used, without confirming which version is the up to date version.

Target did not ship after more than two weeks, yet cannot cancel and order that's clearly being dropped shiped for them. I would advise not ordering anything from them.

Great quiet time activity
Got this while on sale for my almost 3yr old. I also already have a mini for my oldest child who is almost 5. This has been used daily for years! I know this one will be well used and loved by my youngest when she gets it. This is a great toy for children to use during quiet time or if they get up in the morning before it’s time. It also has a headphone jack so the mini can be used for road trips or the airplane. I would definitely recommend this for your little ones.

Broken Charging Cord
My Yoto Mini arrived with a broken USB-C cable. When I contacted customer support to request a replacement, they said it wasn’t covered under their product guarantee and wouldn’t provide one. I was disappointed that I had to purchase a replacement myself. While I’ve otherwise enjoyed the Yoto, the lack of support for such a small issue was frustrating. Especially since I feel you need to have a dedicated charging cord for the Yoto. Consider this before purchasing.

Switched from your mini to third generation
The only reason I am given this a one star review is I did not enjoy the mini. I had it for a year and I wanted to switch not saying two of my family members have it it works great for them for me. It was not good. Sound and I felt the company could do better for a special needs who has one Plus, there’s nothing for nap time on there have sleep sounds great what’s about nap time and you don’t have a way to find it so if you take it on vacation, you need to lose it. It’s over and you can’t find it. People have to put Apple things we player you not think I love your company, but you’re a mini is not for me my brother and my brother‘s daughter have one it works great for them, but the third generation works better for me Yoto thanks

I really thought my 6 year old (b) would love this after all of the reviews I had read from other parents. He was not interested in it at all. We do not do iPads, so I thought this would be a great alternative, especially since we spend a good amount of time in our car. He had no interests in it at all. Although, I think it is a well made product that is easy to use, it was a bit disappointing when he had no interest.

Disconnect your android phone from your home wifi before starting to set up in the app
If anyone else has issues connecting to wifi, here's what finally worked for mine (we got two of these and I went to Reddit to figure this out). It kept correctly connecting my phone to the yoto's hotspot, but then on the step to connect it in the app to my home wifi, it failed every single time. I believe because my phone was automatically reconnecting to 5 instead of 2.4, and the yoto will only connect to 2.4. Told my phone to forget my home wifi network before starting the process, and only logged back onto the WiFi with my phone after the pairing of yoto in the app to my wifi was complete, suddenly no issues.

You’re absolutely right that Yoto Mini connects on a 2.4GHz network, and in some cases phones can automatically switch between 2.4GHz and 5GHz during setup, which may cause the pairing step to fail. I am SO please with this purchase! All generations connect to my phone via hotspot & no home WiFi is needed to set these up. I now have a mini, 2nd Gen, & the 3rd Gen. We have the Tonie box but my kids are not as into it as I thought they would be. (My kids ages are 3, 5 & 7) We are going with the Yoto this year as it can grow with them as they age & the cards are a more minimalist option compared to the Tonies! Go ahead and splurge on the Yoto! I think I love it as much as my kids!

Perfect Screen Substitute
This is a fantastic substitute for screens. We take it on trips and my 5-year-old daughter loves listening to stories on her headphones! Their online card library is extensive, and being able to make our own cards has been incredible. We had a Tonie before this and I was not impressed. The sound quality is horrible and you can only get content through their online store. Though it varies from card to card, in general, the Yoto cards have a LOT of content for the money (compared to the very expensive Tonies), and the music from movies/TV shows is the actual music (not covers, like with the Tonies). Overall, very happy with this purchase! We use the mini Yoto for car and air travel, and the classic Yoto upstairs for bed time stories. Very happy with our purchases!
