We love our Yotos so much, we have 3 and they get used daily. They have been a part of our lives for over four years, my littles have grown up on them and it has been such an amazing help even with school books. Also great on trips if somebody wants to listen to something different, just put headphones on. It’s been a worthwhile investment for our family. We have a huge collection of cards and we also make our own cards, I highly recommend it and also the yotoclub subscription. I see some reviews of people having mechanical issues with the yotos and saying they cant return it, but all you have to do is contact yoto directly, their customer service is great, you get a one year warranty, just get a replacement.

Buyers remorse

I bought this with really high hopes. While it may in general be a decent product screen free, the set up and technical issues I've had are not worth the trouble. I had to change my WiFi settings because it can only connect to 2.4, and even then it was difficult to connect to. By doing that I had issues with many other devices being disconnected due to WiFi change. The WiFi is not always remembered so I have to start from scratch often. I tried contacting help but they sent a video telling me to do exactly what I was doing with no actual help. I had already bought a lot of cards since we were leaving on a trip so I was too invested to return it.

Bought 2 of these. 1 works great the other has trouble reading cards and is extremely frustrating to use. Unfortunately unable to return or exchange.

We love them but one 1/3 broke

I so badly want to give this 5 stars! We literally love our yotos! My kids love listening to the podcast and stories! Our yotos aren’t fully a month old and 1 of our the 3 has broken. The button stopped working we went through all the trouble shooting things and it’s still jammed. You can’t turn it or push it in like you are supposed to. It also isn’t fully reading cards ether. We have rest time alarms set ( my 4 years old will nap some days and not others) and the alarm was going off but I wasn’t able to turn the alarm off. The power button also wasn’t working. So I couldn’t even power it down fully.

Handy, screen free entertainment.

I am wondering about all the negative reviews. I bought my granddaughter a yoto mini this spring and it has been great. WiFi is only required for set up. Once a card is paired with content it can go in the player and work with no WiFi. Content without a card does require WiFi. Before I gave it to her I did some make your own cards. I read fairy tales and did the turn the page signal for them. It was relatively easy to record stories , add them to a playlist and assign them an icon. I even created some of my own icons. I recorded music from my iPad onto my phone so that I could put her favorites on a card. Supposedly you can strip Apple Music titles of the DRM but I just recorded the music the old fashioned way and it came out well. One album I actually recorded each track separately and assigned each song an icon. Most I just recorded entire albums on a track. I did buy some premade cards and those were super easy. The content showed up in the app before I received the cards in the mail! I like that my daughter and I can both have access to the yoto content on our phones. I’ve even played things in my car when I have my granddaughter. The mini itself is a little tricky to learn but a three year old does a decent job and is getting better.

Stopped working after a few weeks

This was our 2nd yoto mini purchase, the first one was bought in 2022 and well-loved by our toddler. After about a year it started acting up, needing to be turned on/off 3-5 times before it would recognize a card. Decided to replace it with a new model, and now this model is doing the same thing after 1 month of use! So frustrating. Just spent 15 minutes turning it on and off trying to get it to read a card with no success.

Not as easy as it's marketed to be

We were unprepared for how much parent setup on your phone with wifi access is required for each card. You also can't have any characters in your wifi password or else it can't sync, which is challenging when trying to travel. Conceptually I love this device but it wasn't as easy as 'plug and play' as they make it seem. Plus the cards are spendy. Additionally the wifi range it could capture was poor so it wouldn't work in certain parts of our house to be able to activate the cards. We ended up returning and got our kid a Bluetooth speaker that we will connect to the library Libby app or other audiobooks/music source.

Quit working after three uses . Impossible customer service

Was only able to use the player a few times. Reached out to customer service and spent weeks providing them the same information and videos again and again. Sent the original yoto player back and they have ghosted us. Not impressed at all!

Catches on Fire

We have had our Yoto for about three years. Even at first, it was finicky. The yoto has to be connected to Wifi to work. The radio function stopped working within about a month, and the cards weren't always being read. We tried making our own cards, but that process was cumbersome and ineffective. Then, in the last year or so, we have had emails for 3 different recall alerts about them catching on fire. We went along with the fixes to keep them from catching on fire for the first recall alert, but now, after the second/third, I am extremely anxious to use the product! It sounds like they keep catching on fire and the company can't figure out why. If the "fixes" aren't working, they aren't fixed! We had paid for an extended warranty asked to return/refund the item, but were told "no" by the company. Terrible customer service, in my opinion! We aren't asking to return it because we don't like it, we are afraid to risk the safety and wellbeing of our child and they refuse to own that and correct the issue! Disgusting! It is way too expensive, with way too features and issues to seem worth it. I would avoid it!!

Read Me! Amazing Unlimited Resource

I absolutely love this player! I wanted a Tonie but was disappointed that you have to buy an individual character for a small amount of content. Also, I knew my kids would want to listen to a specific sound on repeat, and there is no way to see what you are picking. With the Yoto, they have complete control. Also, with the make your own cards, you can put on WHATEVER content you want (in MP3 format). Yes, you need WiFi to set it up, but once it's downloaded, you can take it anywhere WiFi free. You can swap content anytime on the Make your Own cards. It's like an MP3 player but with kid control and screen free. Also, there are small pictures that you can customize so they can see what story they are picking. It's awesome. If you need help, go to the Facebook groups and jump in!

Won't connect to wifi. Tried full reddit thread and put in a help ticket. Can't download any of the cards we have.

Great for littles, but itll take a lot of practice

Great entertainment that we used for a flight. You’ll have to be very mindful about making it ready for no WiFi connection. Because of children’s ever changing preferences, the “Make Your Own” cards were far more worth it to us. Maybe down the line we’ll get story cards, but our little one likes to have physical books. The controls aren’t as intuitive as you’d like so practicing using it with your child will take some time. Don’t expect them to get into independent use with it right off the bat.

Love the Yoto mini

I got this for my music and story loving 7 year old. It has been amazing! She plays with it all the time and it has significantly decreased the amount of times I have to say no to screens each day. I love there is a ton of great kid safe music options and I can set volume controls for the device and headphones. The mini is perfect too because she can take it everywhere!
