Zinsser Peel Stop White Smooth Water-Based Acrylic High Build Binding Primer 1 gal

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This peel stop triple thick primer is unique in that it is 50% transparent. So it will not give you a thick white primer like some may expect. It is more like a mix between wood glue and primer. It is meant to seal in old paint that you don't want to have to completely remove. You do still need to knock off the loose paint but this helps seal the rest so it doesn't continue chipping under your fresh paint. We have an old shed that needed some love. A good pressure wash a good coat of this magic stuff and it was ready to paint! The paint has held up well!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] To put this coating to the test, I used it on old, rough, damaged, previously water soaked, stained, and otherwise just ugly & smelly unfinished plywood inside an old sink base. I put three coats (If I had more time I would have applied a third coat) and then I top-coated with a much thinner primer/top-coat product. (If time, I would have applied a second coat of that). Peelstop Triple Thick mixes surprisingly easy considering how thick it is, and it is thick! It's like a slightly watered-down wood glue (when used at approx. 65-degrees). Also, a surprisingly easy clean-up given its thickness and that it's quick drying. Especially if you use a Chinex bristle brush, it washes right out. The final product: decent. I believe if I had given it the three coats and then two of the topcoat it would have been excellent. Nobody's fault there, time limitations could not be avoided. No points off because no such claims were made, but if you are looking for stain-blocking properties this is probably not the product for you, or perhaps you need a combination of products. I rated it based on the claims made. This proved to be a rock-solid base coat for locking down flacky, splintery, ugly wood. But most of the stain-blocking came from my preferred primer/top-coat combo product.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We had wallpaper taken down in March 2022 and then had the walls texturized and painted. Within a few months, we noticed that the texture and paint was chipping on the corner of a small wall. I believe this is because there is a metal corner protector piece so the texture didn't stick as well as it does to drywall. Anyways, I covered the areas that were chipping with a good coat of this triple thick primer and it covered pretty darn well. I'm happy with the initial result. The question will be if and for how long it holds up or if it will start chipping away despite this primer. I'm hopeful this will have done the trick and prevent it from chipping any further.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Usually we use a primer to cover up chipped wood on the walls and doors. This product is way better as it goes on thick and is able to cover up a lot of imperfections. The drying time is a little longer than what’s indicated on the can but that maybe because I put it on thick.

The color is amazing , it glides on so nice it actually made me proud of my own work! I only Needed one coat for my project and so far it’s been perfect. Hasn’t peeled off like the previous paint job I just did last year

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a great product if you're needing to reinvigorate some older windows, trim, or doors and don't want to have to sand everything back to bare wood. Pay attention to prep, and be careful not to use it outside of the temperature ranges, as it's a bit temperamental to get it to lay just right on vertical surfaces.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Zinsser has always been my go to primer and this one knocks it out of the park! WE recently redid the stairs in out house and I needed to paint an old skirt boards and this stuff is amazing! Run to the store and get some!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Don't expect this to make old peeling wood look like newly painted wood. It does work good, and make things look better but not like new. I used it on my outside window seals that have paint peeling and are starting to rot a little. I put two coats on it, and it looks much better. It is definitely easier than replacing it. I have a shed I plan on doing next spring. I think I might have to put a coat of regular paint over this to get a brighter white though.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This stuff makes painting old peeling around my windows much easier. Not trying to get everything real smooth on old house trim. It covers very well to prime it and fills to make things smoother for a better finish when you put on the paint.

I used two coats and it looked nice and new. I'm going to use Peel Stop for some of the other house project I have next summer.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The paint in my stairway was peeling off,even after I have repainted. it just wouldn't stick. So I tried Zinsser primer. It dries quick,so I was able to repaint again.Zinsser is great primer. I have used other brands before but always came back to Zinsser.Does look great but time will tell.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This primer worked as advertised on my kid's old cedar swingset. This swingset has some very aged wood where the previous paint was starting to peel off and has needed another coat of paint for a long time. I was excited to try out Peel Stop on it to save myself the time of having to remove the old paint. This primer works as advertised! It applies very thick and adheres to the old paint almost like a glue. The water-based acrylic paint was much easier to clean up than I expected. I've worked with previous oil-based paints that require mineral sprits to clean. I was able to clean up with just water. After it dried in a few hours, I was able to apply a new top coat to the smooth, primed surface. So far, it the swingset looks great and is holding up well to the elements. I'm very happy with the time and effort this primer saved me!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Winter coming, and I have some wood that is peeling/cracking. I saw this and wanted to use it. Since I was a little late in the game, I did not do all the spots I needed, I just wanted to try it. 1 months later, it seems to be holding up well. The real winter has not arrived yet, but if it holds like the first month, I will be doing all the needed spots. So far, it has done as expected

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When we started remodeling our basement in one of old rental houses, we knew we needed a good binder primer paint. We started of by scraping all the walls and wiped them clean, then used drywall compound to fill all cracks, sanded everything down and painted. This peel stop paint has great coverage and dries quickly. It’s great quality and did a great job.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got the Zinsser Peel Stop binding primer as part of a project to repaint an old room with peeling paint. First off, as always, don't skip the prep! I used my scrapper to first remove as much as the peeling old paint as possible. Some people just want to re-coat without doing this, but if you do, don't expect good results. Back to my work, I peeled, then applied the Peel Stop. I then let it dry overnight, although you can re-coat in 2 hours if painting in suitable conditions (temp, humidity). I then painted with a name brand premiums paint and primer and the results look great! Peel Stop is a great product as a binding primer, but for drastic color changes, you may also need a color blocking primer. I just went lighter to darker, so worked for me in that regard. Very pleased and will use again.

It covered perfectly and took a top coat really well. You can not see where it had been peeling at all. Highly recommend. Top of the line in my book.

I definitely am looking forward to spring to use it when it is warmer here in the frozen north. Not sure yet what I am going to use it on since it seems to indicate it will change the color to white.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Around my garage door, the trim was not so nice looking. It was peeling from the old paint and was just bad looking. It had small cracks in it too. This primer is exactly what it needed. It is suppose to give you a smoother surface- which it did. It covered the old peeling paint and filled in some areas that had some cracks in it. I did two coats to be on the safe side and finished it with the color to match the rest of my horse. All in all, great primer.
