Common click-pen point sizes include 1.6 mm (bold), 0.7 mm (fine), and 0.5 mm (extra-fine).

Click pens are offered with ballpoint ink and with gel ink. Some gel formulas are erasable (thermo-sensitive gel ink).

Most click pens have a retractable mechanism and a pocket clip. Some gel click pens also include a built-in eraser on the top.

Some click pens use renewable or reclaimed materials such as wheat-straw for the barrel to reduce plastic. Packaging for these products may also use FSC-certified paper and soy-based inks.

Erasable click pens are typically offered in 0.7 mm (fine) and 0.5 mm (extra-fine) tip sizes.
