Kakuro clues show the sum required for each group of consecutive cells. You fill those groups with digits 1–9, and a digit cannot repeat within a single sum group. Use the clue sums and these rules to deduce each entry.

Many books include instructions, hints and tips, number-combination tables, full solution sets, and strategy guidance such as a "unique sum chart" to help with solving.

Most listings target adults (examples note 22 years and up), and content spans a full range of solvers—from beginners to expert-level puzzles.

Descriptions commonly call Kakuro a cross between a crossword and Sudoku: clues give sums for groups of digits (like Sudoku’s numeric logic) while entries fill across and down like a crossword. Digits cannot repeat within each summed group.
