lawn feed spreader

Lawn spreader capacities range from very small handheld tubs (about 0.9 gallon / 2.5 L) through mid-size hoppers (examples include 10‑ and 20‑gallon units or ~2.7 cu ft) up to large tow‑behind hoppers (around 85 gallons). These sizes cover light home use to larger landscaping or commercial jobs.

Spread coverage varies by model type. Handheld and some cordless units have narrow spread widths (around 5 ft) and may list area-per-load figures (one cordless unit lists up to 4,600 sq ft per load). Push/roller spreaders typically reach roughly 18–24 ft of spread width, while large tow‑behind broadcast spreaders can project material up to about 120 ft.

Spreaders use several control systems: simple adjustable flow gates, rotary granular controllers with multiple indexed settings (for example, models with about 18 settings), and cordless units that combine motor speeds with multi‑step flow baffles (examples include models offering 6 speed options and 8 flow‑rate settings). These let you fine‑tune output for different materials and application rates.

Lawn spreaders handle a wide range of materials and tasks: seed and fertilizer application, salt and ice‑melt/deicers, spreading peat moss, compost, topsoil, manure, or sand, applying pool and spa granular treatments, and even distributing feed for fish or livestock or applying certain weed controls. Choose a model sized and configured for the material you plan to use.

Common construction combines plastic hoppers (heavy‑duty polyethylene or ABS) with metal or steel frames, often powder‑coated for corrosion resistance. Some compost/peat spreaders use intensive metal‑mesh rollers or other heavy‑duty components to break up chunks and feed material evenly.

Spreaders use a range of wheels: pneumatic tires around 10 inches, blow‑molded plastic wheels up to ~16 inches, and smaller wheels (around 7.75 inches) on some push models. Handheld units typically have no or negligible wheels. Choose wheel type and size based on terrain and load capacity.

Most listings indicate adult assembly is required, and some include tools or note that no tools are needed for setup (for example, some tow‑behind models). Several units feature convenient storage options such as U‑shaped handles or hangable frames for wall storage.

Anti‑clog and distribution features include built‑in agitators (common on cordless handheld models), intensive metal‑mesh rollers for breaking up clumps in compost/peat spreaders, and edge‑control deflectors to keep material on target. These elements help maintain consistent flow and even coverage.
