Ring accessories use various wireless technologies—radio frequency, Z‑Wave, and Bluetooth—depending on the device. Z‑Wave accessories list a range of about 250 ft to the Base Station.

Certain in‑app features and optional 24/7 professional monitoring require a Ring Protect subscription (sold separately). Availability and which notifications are tied to monitoring may vary by region.

Motion detectors list a 140° detection angle. The glass‑break sensor is described as detecting the sound of breaking glass up to about 25 feet.

The Smoke and CO Listener detects the audible alarm from existing smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and sends mobile notifications via the Ring app. It does not itself detect smoke, fire, or CO, and is intended to work with UL‑listed alarms that are 10 years old or less.

The Ring Alarm Base Station includes a 24‑hour backup battery to keep the system running during power outages. Individual components are battery‑powered, so they continue operating on their own batteries when AC power is out.
