Q: Hey! Very interested for my nana inside of her living room for christmas, but she doesn't have WIFI but she has unlimited data on her cell phone can she still watch the cam from anywhere?

submitted by ring cam - 8 months ago
  • A: Hi ring cam, thanks for reaching out about Ring 1080p Indoor Cam (2nd Gen) Security Camera. To set up the Ring camera using a cellular data plan, you will need to insert a SIM card into the camera's SIM card slot. Once the SIM card is inserted, you can connect the camera to a mobile hotspot or a cellular-enabled device using Bluetooth or WiFi Direct. Please note that Ring video doorbells and security cameras are intended to be used with a home wifi network, rather than a mobile device hotspot. Using a hotspot instead of your home wifi network may cause failed setup attempts or cause your Ring device to continually disconnect from wifi. She would need to be near the camera at all times to view it so she would not be able to view the camera from anywhere without home wifi. If you have any additional questions, we welcome you to contact MyTGTtech at 833-848-8324 every day, between 7am-11pm CST.

I bought this for when I go out of town to keep an eye on my cat. I live in an apartment building with pretty good wifi and it doesn’t stay connected because I may be too far from the router box. It still works offline as in every 3-4 minutes it will update but it’s kinda useless if you don’t have wifi i’m sure there is better options lol

Setting it up was quick and easy. The app is easy to use. The microphone and speaker features are great and work well. Overall incredibly pleased.

I have the first generation and one of these cameras. The picture on the second gen is much clearer but the first generation is also pretty decent. The privacy shutter is a pretty useless feature though because if I forget to remove it and leave home my camera becomes essentially useless. Anyway, I like the camera and would get it again.

We recently bought this when we upgraded our ring doorbell. We use it in the kitchen to monitor our dog when we are out of the house. It was really easy to set up, literally plug in and go. We like being able to talk to the dog through the device, The video quality is good, as you expect.

Hi Cam. Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback with us. We understand the importance of having all relevant product information prior to purchasing. The features and technology provided by the Ring Indoor Cam (2nd Gen) are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We can definitely provide you with more information regarding the concern mentioned in your review. It sounds like there was some confusion regarding the Ring Protect Plan. The Ring Protect Plan is a subscription that gives you access to paid features for Ring devices. With a Ring Protect Plan, you can save, review, and share video recordings from your Ring devices to your Ring account. Without a Ring Protect Plan, you can still view real-time video for Ring doorbells and cameras and answer doorbell notifications when they happen, but you don’t get video recordings of those events. Visit our support center for additional details: https://ring.com/support/articles/lw54x/General-Information-on-Ring-Protect-Subscription-Plans. Ring Community was launched to help deliver the most current news and educational information to our neighbors. Frequent connection issues

2 out of 5 stars
Moonrox - 7 months ago
Not sure what the issue is, but about 30-40% of the time I try to check the camera from my phone it says it’s disconnected. My hubby picked one up cheap to use in our daughter’s room to replace a failing baby monitor. What we should have researched (but it didn’t occur to us) is that every time you open the privacy cover, the camera makes a loud beep. Then if the motion sensor gets triggered, it loudly says “You are being recorded.” So whether we turn it on before or after putting her to bed, it makes a loud noise that wakes her up. Granted, it’s not marketed as a baby monitor, and it’s our own fault for not doing our due diligence. The low rating is for the constant connection issues, though.

Hi Moonrox. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand how important it is for your Ring Indoor Cam (2nd Gen.) to function consistently and reliably, so you are alerted to any wanted or unwanted activity in or around your home. The features and technology provided by the Ring Indoor Cam (2nd Gen.) are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We can definitely provide you with more information regarding the concern mentioned in your review. It sounds like the device is not performing as expected. Indoor Cam features 1080p HD video recording, two-way audio with noise cancellation, a wide viewing angle, a built in siren, an enhanced mounting design, a power cable/adapter, and an included removable Privacy Cover. The Motion Warning can be toggled off under the Device Settings tab in the Ring app. Usually, a device falling offline repeatedly is related to poor wifi connectivity caused by signal fluctuations, channel congestion, or data loss.
