Car Seat Trade-in Event FAQ

Guests who trade in their old car seats will receive a 20% off Target Circle™ Bonus toward a new car seat, car seat base, travel system, stroller or select baby home gear. Select baby home gear includes playards, high chairs, swings, rockers, bouncers, walkers, entertainers and jumpers.

The next event starts from September 21 and runs through to October 4, 2025.

Target will accept and recycle all types of car seats, including: infant car seats, convertible car seats, car seat bases, harness or booster car seats, as well as car seats that are expired or damaged. Guests will receive a 20% off Target Circle™ Bonus for trading in any one of these items.

Car seats can only be traded in at a Target store. Target will have drop-off boxes for guests’ unwanted car seats located near Guest Services.

Signs will be placed near the drop-off boxes for guests to scan from their mobile device into their Circle. Upon scanning, the guest will receive one bonus per Target Circle account. The bonus will stay in your Wallet until you use it twice or it expires.

You will receive one 20% off Target Circle™ Bonus toward a new car seat, booster seat, car seat base, travel system, stroller or select baby gear. The bonus can be applied to both in-store and online purchases and is valid September 21 through October 18, 2025. This bonus can be combined with other item offers. This bonus is redeemable twice.

The 20% off Target Circle™ Bonus excludes items sold and shipped by Target Plus and clearance.

Materials from the old car seats will be recycled by Target’s partners to create new products such as pallets, plastic buckets, construction materials such as steel beams and carpet padding, and select Brightroom items.

Target introduced its first car seat trade-in program in April 2016. Since then, over 3.5 million car seats—or 1.2 million pounds of car seat material—have been recycled.
