How to Style Natural Hair

Two-strand twist-out

This tried & true natural ’do is a must for quick, easy & long-lasting styling. The result? Flawless zig-zag curls you can flaunt all week. Get the look with these 5 simple steps.

Step 1

Start with dry or slightly damp hair Prep hair by spritzing strands with a leave-in spray conditioner. The added moisture will make it easier to detangle.

Step 2

Section off hair & start detangling Divide strands into sections & use clips to hold everything in place. Detangle each section using a wide-tooth comb. Apply additional leave-in conditioner or spray sections with water to get through difficult knots & tangles.

Step 3

Begin two-strand twists First, apply a curling crème to each section from root to tip. Then, separate each section into two strands and begin twisting down to the ends. Tip: twirl the ends around your finger to keep twists from unraveling. Repeat until all sections are complete.

Step 4

Set your twists Set your twists under a dryer for 30 minutes to an hour—or let your hair dry overnight. Make sure to use a satin pillowcase, head scarf or hair bonnet if drying overnight.

Step 5

Take down twists & style Use your fingers to unravel each twist. Tip: apply a small amount of oil to your fingertips beforehand to prevent frizz. For extra volume, use a comb to stretch hair at the roots—or use your fingers to separate and fluff strands until you get your desired look.
