We live on a large lake and are surrounded by prairie. The range is approximately one to 1.5 miles, which is perfectly adequate for us, and our micromobile base station. Having 3 units is the perfect combination for us.

Pros: -Clear audio. Used in primarily close range but at most was a football field's length apart and the sound quality was super clear—no static or fuzzy transmissions. -Good distance. Obviously the number of objects between radios can affect your distance but they transmitted between and through a metal barn, lots of cars, PA system, and lots of other interfering things, and I would feel comfortable having the radios farther apart and still be able to use them. -Easy to use. These radios have so many functions and abilities that it could get overwhelming but navigating the functions was very easy and the owner’s manual was clear. Not tested fully: -How long the batteries last on one charge. I tried to put it through the paces during a 6-hour wedding that I needed to communicate with my second shooter and the battery meter didn’t waiver at all, so that’s promising. If I were to add any functionality, it would be to add a backlit screen to be able to maneuver through channels with ease in the dark
ESSENTIAL!

I love these radios. I am a full time RVer and am frequently in areas with no cell signal, but I can always count on these radios for reliable communication. I have used them in all types of terrain and weather, and they have never let me down. Crystal clear reception! My favorite feature is the weather radio. It's great to be able to get a complete extended forecast with the push of a button. I'm also very impressed with the battery life. I can use them for days without having to recharge, making them essential during a power outage or the like. I would suggest everyone have a set of these given the current events.
Must for Camping/Hiking/Road trips

Midland Radios are perfect for a hike, in a campground, and between cars! These radios stayed charged for a long time and can even be plugged into a USB in my Subaru to charge once off the trails. I used this product in three different settings. First I tried this product in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The radios worked well communicating on the trail. They fit nicely on my hiking pack strap, stayed charged the whole trail, and worked most of the trail within a couple miles of the other group. It is also a great product for caravan’s on a trip and communicates vehicle to vehicle with ease. Lastly, within a campground the product is useful in communicating with other groups around the campground or on trails. There are a couple things to know ahead of buying the product. Although it says up to 28 miles, know that this means on flat open sighted ground. There are three radios and only two slots in the charging station. Overall, these radios are great, light, tough, and great for hiking, camping, and long road trips!

I was able to use this not only for their intended purpose (on the trail) but also as a way of communication for coaching to the AT. It is about a mile a way and it handled the distance no problem, can’t wait to keep on testing to see their range! I can see them being great for caravaning as well as backing the camper up. Good range, nice that there are so many channels, and battery life is good as well (they run off AAs too if you run out of juice and are in a pinch)

These have made a great addition to our camping gear. Our family is able to stay in contact within a campground easily. The range is less than a mile with trees & hills. Which was fine for what we need them for & to be expected. The audio is super clear. We really like that you can use the docking station to charge or the USB. They had a great battery life & the clip feels sturdy.

These walkie talkies worked great and were simple enough for anyone to use. They worked more then a mile away through the suburbs. The clips were very sturdy and will make it very hard for the radio to fall off. The private channels worked well even with all three. Overall this is a great quality product for anyone.
Bad Range

These are rated for 28 mile, but could not get more than 3/4 of a mile in the city with flat ground and no tall buildings. Hope it's better in the desert.

The radios are advertised as "up to" 28 miles. They are not rated for 28 miles. Please note that range is subject to quite a few factors. Best range will be achieved out-of-doors in open rural areas without obstructions, or on flat areas. The "up to" range is under optimal conditions over open water, desert, or mountain top to mountain top. Any obstructions between you and who you are communicating with will greatly decrease your range. This is especially true in an urban area with houses, trees, power lines etc.

We got these radios and couldn't be happier. We have used them camping and while jeeping when the jeep CB wasn't working. Pros: • Long battery life. These lasted longer than expected with just the factory charge. • Clear audio. These were used in primarily close range but between vehicles and the sound quality was super clear—no static or garbled transmissions. We could even hear other people from across the river as if they were standing right next to us. • Good distance. Obviously the number of objects between radios can affect your distance but for what we were using them for it was great and I would feel comfortable having the radios farther apart and still be able to use them. • We got a 3 pack! The more radios in use the more sites can stay connected • Easy to use. These radios have so many functions and abilities that it can get overwhelming but navigating the functions was pretty easy and the owner’s manual was clear. Cons: • We got a 3 pack but the charging cradle only holds 2. This isn’t really a negative but does require additional planning if you want to use all three radios and ensuring they all have the same charge. • Not really a con, but I may never utilize all the features that these radios offer, they are that awesome.
