Description

About the Book

A chair waiting for someone who doesn't arrive. A shoe with memory. A mother who runs in her dreams. A couple in love with what they don't do. A psychiatrist caring for his patient. A coin flying in a hospital. A woman who gets excited about Plato. Two essayists in the bathroom. A politician persecuted by invisible revolutionaries. A cubist murderer. A shot who thinks. Monologues. Peeping Toms All this, and more, lives on in Playing Dead. In these new stories, Neuman explores the tragicomic register to its ultimate consequences, moving from the intimate to the absurd, from the pain of death to the sharpest sense of humor. Brief pieces that simultaneously seek emotion and experimentation. A daring work with style, voice and temporality. A striking series of reflections on loss as a lucid way of intensifying life, of interpreting our amazed transience.
