Description

The Fiftieth Annual Hunger Games are about to begin. Who will be tribute? Who will live and die? Return to Panem for more pulse-pounding action than ever before. Oh, and may the odds be ever in your favor.
The phenomenal fifth book in the Hunger Games series!
When you’ve been set up to lose everything you love, what is there left to fight for?
As the day dawns on the fiftieth annual Hunger Games, fear grips the districts of Panem. This year, in honor of the Quarter Quell, twice as many tributes will be taken from their homes.
Back in District 12, Haymitch Abernathy is trying not to think too hard about his chances. All he cares about is making it through the day and being with the girl he loves.
When Haymitch’s name is called, he can feel all his dreams break. He’s torn from his family and his love, shuttled to the Capitol with the three other District 12 tributes: a young friend who’s nearly a sister to him, a compulsive oddsmaker, and the most stuck-up girl in town. As the Games begin, Haymitch understands he’s been set up to fail. But there’s something in him that wants to fight . . . and have that fight reverberate far beyond the deadly arena.

Q: Will this story do the beloved character justice or will this book be as bad as The Ballad of Song Birds & Snakes?

submitted by MarieH - 1 year ago
  • A: TBOSAS book and movie was loved among the hunger games fans. This book is about Haymitch's story and I really do think Suzanne will do justice to her characters as she always has and will.

submitted byvs - 1 year ago
  • A: That is a matter of opinion and you will have to read the book to find out.

  • A: Also, if Haymitch was the first victor from 12, who was his mentor? I cannot wait to get these answers. I hope it brings us back home after the games, especially after he said snow killed his family and “his girl” in Mockingjay.

  • A: It wasn’t the book that was the problem. It was casting Rachel Zegler in the Movie to play Lucy Grey. It ruined it for everyone and cast a dark cloud on everything that had to do with it.

  • A: I'm sure that it will be the same quality that BoSaS was. If you didn't like it, I don't recommend it. I personally loved BoSaS, which is why I will be purchasing and reading Sunrise on the Reaping.

  • A: Honestly I didn't really care for The Ballare of Songbirds & Snakes, but the idea is nice, I just wish it was portrayed differently. I have faith that this book will be portrayed better, because it kind of has to be because it's Haymich, and if it's not it will ruin his character.

  • A: BAD? the ballad of songbirds and snakes was perfectly written, the buildup and plot was so good. But anyway I don't think anything with Haymitch Abernathy could be bad. Can't wait 😌

  • A: First off the ballad of songbirds and snakes was not a bad book at all. it was a awesome book and second the new book is going to be about 50th hunger game also the quarter quell an telling haymitch story and there will be 48 tribute in this hunger games so no none of the hunger game books are bad at all they are really good

disappointed

The product quality was fine. The pages felt thinner than the other books. The over all book was disappointing. It’s the weakest of all of the books. It reads like a fanfiction and lacked any new argument. Everything argued in this book is argued better in the trilogy.

A little underwhelming

I really love the trilogy. I read the first prequel for Snow, borrowed from the library because I know it wasn't a keeper. It was ok. Glad I didn't buy. I was looking forward to Haymitch story though, even though I know there's no happy ending. So, I bought as it came out. I was underwhelmed. I felt like it wasn't necessary to dedicate a book to it. I hope that's the end of the Hunger Games series. Authors need to learn when to stop.

Completed in a week.

I love this series and enjoyed reading about Haymitch. It ties so many loose ends from the previous stories.

Will destroy you, 5 stars

I wasn’t sure how interesting it was going to be seeing how we already had the cliff notes from Catching Fire, and I had a very love/hate opinion for the other prequel, but I loved it. I loved the cameos, I don’t care if jaded tik tokers thought it read like fanfic, I love fanfic, so who cares. It did expound upon the original series in a very relevant way. Did it destroy me? Yes, but it’s still a 5 star read. And get the standard edition, the poster in the Target exclusive isn’t worth it.
