Best charcoal
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have had my joe classic for about 6 months. I have used big box stores charcoal. I bought a1/2 pallet of this charcoal and have to learn my joe all over. It gets hot faster, stays hot longer and you use less charcoal. Over all it's cheaper than a big box store.

Solid band of lump charcoal
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The brand I use whenever I can find it. It's not easy to find around here but when I do find it I stock up. Consistently, it's mostly larger chunks throughout

My family’s favorite lump for flavor
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Big Block lump coal has definitely provided the cleanest, best tasting and smelling lump charcoal (we have tried plenty). It has has the largest chunks for longer cooks, on a consistent basis. I tend to save the largest chunks for when I am, in fact, doing a long smoking session @ lower temperatures. It’s definitely not the cheapest (reason I’ve tried several others), but definitely a family pleaser and therefore the regular lump coal in my Kamado Joe!

I cheated once and tried a different brand, that wont happen again. From burn time to temperature and ease of lighting this is the best charcoal hands down .

lovin the big chunks
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've used this in my kamado grill for both low-and-slow smoking and high-heat searing. The lump charcoal lights clean, burns hot, and lasts a long time. Most chunks are big and dense — perfect for airflow and heat retention

Best Lump
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve tried almost all of the top brands of lump and I find myself coming back to the Big Block. It is the most consistent in terms of sustaining heat and I have almost none of that annoying popping. The flavor is not overpowering so your wood chunks can do its job. This summer I did a brisket for 10 hours then added a small amount of coals to the basket and it went another 4 hours to cook 3 racks of ribs. Fantastic product!

Best Lump charcoal period!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love this charcoal, it’s the only kind I buy. Big block always has a lot of large chunks for slow burns while smoking. This is my go too charcoal.

Can't beat it!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is absolutely the best lump charcoal there is. I go out of my way to buy it every time I need to stock up. When you're investing $$$ on meat and your smoker, you also need to invest in good quality lump and this is the best there is.

Some Serious Lump
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The KJ Big Block XL Lump Charcoal is, by far, my preferred lump for my Classic Joe cooks! Nothing worse than getting a new bag of other lump charcoals and finding it mostly crumbs, its a Royal rip off! I have never had this problem with Big Block XL Lump Charcoal. Great lump, I highly recommend this product.

Not just lumps of coal
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I made a huge purchase and bought multiple bags because I’m such a huge fan. I use a starter to light it up in a chimney and it burns slowly and perfectly every time! I love the smell of this charcoal and it breaks up very nicely when it burns.

Quality Versatile Charcoal
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Good mix and consistency of lump sizes. Mostly medium to large with a few very large pieces in each bag. Works great for grilling and low slow smokes. Very little smokiness with the charcoal allowing for fine control of smoke with wood.

Fantastic Charcoal
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] No, you do not have to use Joe charcoal with your Komodo Joe. But.... the quality is there. It is excellent charcoal, lights quickly and maintains its fire. Highly recommend.

Consistent Charcoal Sizes and Long Burning
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Some people may think charcoal is charcoal, let me tell you nothing could be further from the truth. Your charcoal selection can make or break your cook. There are a number of characteristics that a charcoal must have to make it great. Arguably the most important is the consistency in size of all the pieces in the bag. Some brands you’ll find giant chunks and millions of small almost unusable pieces. When you pour that type of charcoal in the grill it lessens the amount of airflow between pieces and can be hard to light or stay lit resulting in uneven cooks. Kamado Joes XL charcoal has large consistently sized pieces and I’ve never gotten a bag with small pieces or rocks in the bottom. I know what I’m getting when I use this charcoal and that’s good food. Another very important characteristic is the quality of wood used to make the charcoal. I’ve bought charcoal that looked like it was made from old 2x4’s and the food’s taste reflected that. Kamado Joes charcoal is high quality hardwood without the weird aftertastes. I would recommend this charcoal to anyone.
