About the Book
Doctor Steven R. Gundry, a New York Times bestselling author and creator of the groundbreaking Plant Paradox book series, presents compelling evidence that our gut microbiome determines our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, as well as our mental, emotional, and neurological health -- and shows us how to heal it in order to regain control of the mind. In his previous bestselling books, Steven R. Gundry taught readers how to reverse disease and improve health and well-being by preventing the gut from becoming too permeable or by restoring it if this problem had already developed. In The Gut-Brain Paradox, he delves even deeper into the mysterious realm of the human microbiome, an area that until now has been poorly understood. In this work, Dr. Gundry reveals the complex and multifaceted ways in which our microbes control the health and functioning of our brain, and how the connection between the gut and the brain is established long before birth. The Gut-Brain Paradox sheds fascinating light on how the combination of leaky gut and dysbiosis -- both driven by Western diets, the overuse of antibiotics and other medications, and environmental toxins -- allows pathogenic bacteria to dominate the intestinal ecosystem. These harmful microbes trigger inflammation and take control of the intricate communication systems between the gut and the brain, thereby laying the groundwork for neurological changes, brain fog, neurodegeneration, mental disorders, personality changes, and even addictions. However, these changes are reversible. The Gut-Brain Paradox presents the latest scientific findings and teaches us how to eat in order to restore not only inner balance, but also mental energy and well-being.
