Q: Does this kills roaches, bugs, etc?
A: Not a good idea. Try bait traps instead. Roaches will eat the poison, and because they often consume dead roaches and each other's droppings, the poison spreads throughout the colony, effectively killing them in their nests. For the best results with bait traps: * Placement is Key: Focus on areas where you've seen roaches or their droppings. These are typically dark, moist, and secluded spots. Good places include: * Underneath kitchen and bathroom sinks, paying attention to where pipes enter the wall. * Behind and under appliances like refrigerators, stoves, and dishwashers. * Inside cabinets and drawers, along the frames and edges. * Near baseboards and in corners where roaches tend to travel along walls. * In bathrooms, even on the upper rear of the toilet. * Near any known water sources or areas with condensation. * How They Work: Roach baits contain a food attractant mixed with a slow-acting insecticide. Roaches are lured to the bait, eat it, and then return to their hiding places. The poison doesn't kill them immediately, allowing them to contaminate other roaches through contact, feces, or by other roaches consuming their dead bodies. This "domino effect" helps eliminate the entire colony. * Types of Baits: Roach baits come in various forms, including: * Gels: Applied in small beads or lines in cracks and crevices. They tend to stay moist and attractive to roaches for a longer time. Brands like Advion and Combat are popular. * Bait Stations: These are enclosed plastic containers with bait inside. Roaches enter, eat the bait, and leave. They are generally considered safer for pets and children as the poison is contained. Ortho Home Defense offers bait stations. * Dusts: Fine powders that roaches walk through, picking up the poison on their bodies and ingesting it while grooming. Boric acid is a common ingredient in dusts. * Target has several brands: You'll find various options at Target, including different formulations and brands of both gel baits and bait stations. * Don't use sprays with baits: Avoid spraying insecticides around the bait traps, as this can repel roaches and prevent them from eating the bait. * Replace Regularly: Roach baits can dry out and become less effective over time. Replace them every few months or sooner if you see roach activity return. * Be Patient: Bait traps don't offer immediate results like some sprays. It takes time for the roaches to find the bait, return to their nests, and for the poison to take effect on the entire colony. You should start seeing a reduction in roach activity within a week or two, but complete elimination can take longer depending on the infestation size. Good luck with getting rid of those roaches!
