Luteinizing Hormone is one of the hormones produced by the pituitary gland. It is secreted at very low levels throughout your menstrual cycle. Once a developing egg follicle reaches a certain size, LH secretion surges to high levels. This hormone surge is what triggers ovulation about 24 to 48 hours later. Your LH surge is important because it initiates the beginning of ovulation.

Ovulation is the release of a mature egg from the ovary. It signals the beginning of your fertile period. A positive result indicates the presence of a high amount of LH or LH surge. The amount of LH in your body will begin to decrease after ovulation, so you’ll only get a positive result during that crucial fertile period. Once the egg is released, it is only viable for about 24 hours. After that your fertile window is over. This makes it very important to be able to identify this best time to conceive.

Ovulation may be irregular because of conditions, emotions and other factors in your life. You can’t presume that ovulation always occurs at the same time after menstruation. Therefore, you should test again in each menstrual cycle.

How to do the test?
-Dip the strip into the urine for 3-5 seconds.
-Lay the strip flat.
-Read results in 5 minutes.

How to read the results?
-Positive (LH Surge): Two lines are visible and the test line is equal to or darker than the control line.
-Negative (No LH Surge): No test line or the test line is lighter than the control line.

Q: How long do you recommend letting the urine sample sit out to cool down enough to take the test? The instructions inside of the packet state that the urine must be at “room temperature” or 59°-86°, but fresh urine exits the body closer to 100°.

  • A: If fresh urine is around body temperature (close to 100°F), allow it to stabilize in a room-temperature environment for a few minutes to prevent potential thermal variations from influencing the chemical reactions of the test. However, it should not need to cool excessively; a brief waiting period is generally sufficient.

Unclear lines/waste of money and time

I don’t understand the high rating on these. Every time I bought these when TTC, they never got quite as dark. I used them alongside another brand (easy@home) just to test it and the easy@home brand worked far better. Very clear and readable lines unlike pregmate. Never had a good batch of these whenever I tried them. Easy@home not only works better but also much more affordable (like $5-10 for 50-100 tests).
