Infested with fungus gnats
My house is absolutely infested with fungus gnats. I didn’t even use it on my plants because it was CRAWLING with gnats as soon as I opened it. But they were all released into my house and are now colonizing my plants and drains. Costly and time consuming to eradicate them. Don’t waste your money on this product

Not potting soil
The soil is terrible. It was basically a blend of mulch with very little soil. Do not buy this!

Hi Mkline! We're sorry to hear that you have had this experience — this does not sound standard for our Organic All-Purpose Potting Mix. Could you please send photos of the soil and photos of the full front and back of the bag to contact@backtotheroots.com? We'd love to take a look and send a replacement bag of soil. We look forward to hearing from you and making this right.

Bad soil, came in clumps and had bits of plastic and string in it. Also large pieces of wood and bark. Not a good product.

Tiny bag
Ok potting mix but the bag is tiny. Barely filled up two smallish planters.

Worst soil ever. It has so many disgusting flying bugs and I had to throw my plants away

Hi there! We're sorry to hear you've had this experience. If you're seeing small black bugs, these are fungus gnats. Fungus gnats are common with all organic soils. We would love to hear from you and make this right. Could you please send a photo of the full front and back of the bag to contact@backtotheroots.com? We look forward to hearing from you.

my soil came with gnats
I don't think this soil was stored properly at my local Target store. I ordered a bag for pickup and opened it to discover gnats inside. There are tiny air holes in the bag that they will sneak into if the product is not stored properly (in overly wet conditions). Despite getting rid of the soil and returning it, my plants now have gnats hanging around.

Hi Eramirez! We're sorry to hear this happened. Fungus gnats are common with all organic soils — you can always sterilize (bake, or use boiling water) in the soil before using it. We would love to hear from you and send a replacement. Please send a photo of the full front and back of the bag to contact@backtotheroots.com. We look forward to hearing from you and making this right.

This was not soil. It was chunky mulch. Hardly any soil mix and just big pieces of mulch.

Hi Paige! We're sorry to hear you've had this experience — what you're describing sounds like mycelial growth, not mold, which is a sign of healthy, biologically active soil. We would love to take a look. Please send photos of the soil in each bag, and photos of the full fronts and backs of the bags to contact@backtotheroots.com. We're happy to send replacements as needed.

must PUT BAG in FREEZER gnats!
Gnats! MUST put bag in the freezer. Kill the gnats and eggs. 20 flew out and many many more in bag. Quite a few large pieces of wood.

Great Soil for Happy Plants
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I planted my propagation and she’s doing great! The soil was super moist. I don’t think most people think about soil and how much it matters when it comes to planting. However, good soil is a foundational investment. This seems to be a great one.

Fungus Gnats
Full of fungus gnats. Just got it home from Target pick up and flies/gnats were in the target bag, now they are in my car and are clearly coming from inside this bag of potting soil. Would definitely not recommend.

I love gardering
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First of all thanks, I love to try New things for my little garden. I used it on my roses and veggies and works fine, cause it has nutrients and repell insects.

Good All-Purpose Soil
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used the Back To The Roots Best Potting Mix to replant my thyme plant. The soil had worm castings and symbiotic mycorrhizae. It also had yucca extract for moisture control. So far my plant is thriving. I watered my plant once a week and the leaves and stems did not wilt or dry out. The soil was also used for a tomato plant replant. The soli was not too messy to work with. Large chunks of soil came out of the bag. Easy to clean up. The bag size of 6 dry quarts was easy to handle. Great for small plant replants. Can be used for indoor and outdoor plants, herbs, flowers, vegetables, and fruit plants. I would buy this brand of soil for planting projects.

BAG INVESTED WITH BUGS!!!! DONT BUY
I would do zero stars if I could. I should have read the bad reviews but I didn’t. The soil was INVESTED with gnats. I wanted this brand and this soil to be my go to because it’s organic and sees to have good values but nope. This ruined my seedlings and I thought it was me. NEVER buy this. Better off just buying Miracle Grow.

Rich, High quality soil
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Excited to get back to planting now that our weather allows it and we decided to use this soil for some veggies and flowers. The soil breaks down easily and smooth. I didn't smell any of the usual unpleasant soil stench that normally accompanies soil, so that was a pleasant surprise. I don't have any issues with the ingredients listed. Our plants have already begun growing and we just planted them less than a week ago. We water every few days making sure not to over saturate and it seems to retain the water fairly well.
