Delivered in a large box and fell through the bottom when I tried to pick it up. In the box was shampoo/conditioner/bodywash that were all broken and spilled on the soil

Can't wait to see my flowers grow this spring!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This soil smelled very earthy, yet clean with no scent of any chemical pesticides or fertilizers. The consistency was great, no big chunks of bark, no hard solid clumps of dirt. This soil is light and airy, as well as very fine, no big chunks of organic material. It was also very easy to spread. I'm excited to see what my plants think of it as we get closer to spring!

Grows the perfect plant.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We love the brand Back to the Roots. When my son fist started his gardening journey, this is what we bought. This garden soil has consistently been a reliable choice for his journey. The quality is top notch and we have never encounters any issues like mold or unpleasant scents like some of the other brands. The color is deep and rich for quality growing. It’s able to compact well to hold the new plant in place. This is a great choice for all your gardening.

Good Soil
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The packaging wasn’t sturdy and came with a hole so the soil was getting everywhere. But the product itself has been good so far. Started using it for some tomato seeds to prepare for the spring. Will need to wait a little to see if there will be any growth. I like that it is organic as well.

Terrible bug infested dirt.
Terrible. It was full of little bugs like fruit flies. Infested all the plants I re-potted. I’m extremely mad. I’ve spent more now trying to get rid of the flies. Wish I would’ve just bought cheap regular dirt.

Perfect to jumpstart the garden
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this soil in exchange for my honest review. This is intended for in ground use and is ideal for vegetable gardens. I added it to my vegetable beds and can see that not only will it add good nutrients but includes some bark like mulch to help retain moisture, which will be much needed in California summer. This was great to mix with my clay like ground soil and was easy to handle and manage myself.

My favorite.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used the Back to the Roots Organic Garden Soil – Premium Blend for my in-ground beds this season, and overall I’m really pleased with it. The texture is loose and easy to work with, and it blends nicely into existing soil without feeling overly heavy or compacted. I appreciate that it’s organic and already mixed with plant food and dolomitic limestone — it saves an extra step and gives plants a solid start. My vegetables and flowers transplanted well, and I noticed good early growth and strong color within the first couple of weeks. It holds moisture well without staying soggy, which is important in my area during hot spells. I didn’t notice any large sticks or debris, which can sometimes be an issue with bagged soil.

Great soil
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’m so excited to try this soil I’m unable to right now due to the winter season but when it’s spring this is going all over my backyard to grow some delicious tomatoes and peppers! Back to the roots soil is really good in consistency and retains moisture really well. It’s easy to use, a bit darker and of course a bit harder than potting soil but perfect to allow plants to grow well and plus the weed suppression is pretty good!

Should've bought mulch
I have purchased mulch with less wood in it then what this 'soil' came with. Very disappointed. purchased with their seed starter kit to start growing herbs and some vegetables for my family. Will not be buying it again.

Hi Eric! We’re sorry to hear this and understand how frustrating that must be, especially when you were excited to start growing your own herbs and vegetables. This doesn’t sound like the experience we aim to provide. If you’re willing, please reach out to us at contact@backtotheroots.com and include photos of the soil along with the front and back of the bag so we can look into this further and assist you.

Good Soil
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Mixed the soil into existing flower pots i had around my garden and backyard. The soil seems like good quality and i like how it DOES NOT have a bad scent like alot of soil mixtures. Recommend :)

It’s soil
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We chose and received a bag of Back to the Roots “Better” Garden soil. I’m not new to this brand as I’ve had their tomato growing kit and bag of potting soil (both purchased years ago myself). We recently restarted our aquaponic garden and had some additional tomato spouts that we decided to ‘pot’ with this soil until they’re ready to be planted. Overall this soil seems like your typical garden soil. It scooped easily and held together well and I didn’t make too much of a mess with these plants. Would I go out of my way to repurchase this soil? Probably not, because it doesn’t seem readily available in my area and there are cheaper alternatives.

Full of bugs!!
Terrible and full of gnats and thrips. My vegetables are suffering because of all the bugs. Very unhappy. Target also refused to accept my return of the remaining soil.
