Pineapple Street - by Jenny Jackson

Liked: Living in Brooklyn and hanging around BK Heights, I really liked that the author captured the neighborhood essence well. You can close your eyes and feel like you are there. The CVS I can see myself walking there - that’s my place! I like the descriptions, really great way of centering the reader in the book (not just in Brooklyn). I liked that it centered around family. Disliked: there wasn’t any true character development. There was some growth, especially in some more than others. But there wasn’t a proper true journey. There wasn’t a “hard” challenge to overcome. So one was nicknamed the “gold digger” and when she went home she realized she was being a jerk to an old HS boyfriend in the same way her sister in laws were to her. Or another had a savior complex and worked at a non profit only to have an affair with the “best” guy there (who had flings with previous young girls) and felt like she had fallen in love. I wished these had been more fleshed out, given them something to “knocked them off their feet” and then, come together as a family. Also, the parents were WAY too clingy to the house. If you were ready to gift the home then why the need for your input? I like the recommendation someone gave - read it from your local library.

Terrible book. So slow and boring. Waste of time, pick something else.

Engaging characters in this book

I was really looking forward to reading this book because it sounds like it would be a fun read. It has a pineapple in the title after all. All it is basically is rich people doing rich people things. Not even exciting rich people things. If you want to read it just go to the library.
