I'm a diabetic and seeing a doll that represents me makes my heart happy, even at age 40!

Makes my girl feel like she’s not alone with her T1D diagnosis 💙💗💙💗

Been a T1D since I was 5 days old and I am 23 now. This Barbie made me so happy and if I do have a T1D daughter one day I hope to pass it on to her🥹🩷

I was super excited to finally receive the T1D Barbie however the box came damaged. I was hoping to keep her in the box and on a shelf but the box can’t even stand up straight. The doll looks to be in good condition.

I have an 18yr old T1D daughter, she was DX’d at age 6, back then there was ZERO representation, no public knowledge or very little, and basically everyone assumed that she “caught it” from eating too much sugar! She was so embarrassed to take insulin injections in public, she’d have us go in public bathrooms or the car to get her insulin injections bc everyone would literally stare at her and whisper. CGMs we’re still semi new at that time in 2013, not a lot of people used them, so she would always want them placed in areas of her body that no one could see due to the stares, questions, people randomly touching it, etc, having a Barbie or anything really that would have given her a sense of normalcy and representation would probably have made things somewhat better for her. I would like to think that it would have also opened up a dialogue about type 1 diabetes as well, however, after reading the comments I have been seeing online and in social media it has done nothing to help with the ignorance of the public. I have saw so many mean comments such as that these Barbies are promoting children eating too much sugar and getting diabetes, people saying that this glorified obesity, glorified poor eating habits and health, and some MUCH worse comments. My wish was that this Barbie would motivate people to learn the difference between type 1 and type 2, yet instead the internet immediately started making all these assumptions that our children somehow did this to themselves. I honestly wish that the scientists had given type 1 or type 2 different names, that one or the other should’ve never been named diabetes! That way the public could distinguish between the diseases! Because our children did not do this to themselves. Anyways, that’s not on Barbie, this doll is a HUGE step in the right direction towards the type 1 community and children! Even though my daughter is now a young adult this doll still means a ton to us! We are buying one for her to collect (she said it be embarrassing to keep out in her dorm room lol) but she too is VERY excited about this Barbie! It will go side by side with her Rufus teddy bear from the JDRF who was her best friend throughout childhood bc he was a stuffed animal representing her and what she was going through (plus she could practice giving him shots lol), he’s the ONLY stuffed animal she’s kept her entire childhood and will always be special to her, and I see this Barbie being just as important to her and spending the rest of her life with her and Rufus!

The box that the Barbie arrived in was damaged from the outside. Almost caved completely in and the actual Barbie package was damaged as well. The side ripped apart and the front smashed in as if something had fell on it and damaged it through the package it arrived in. I wanted this as a collectors item for my wife since she is type 1 diabetic and just very disappointed with how it arrived completely damaged and in no way able to be used for such purpose. Having it returned but unsure when I will get a replacement because of how popular these are right now, which is even worse

This type 1 diabetes Barbie is amazing. What a positive message for diabetics everywhere.

My daughter is 16 and couldn’t have been more excited to receive this Barbie. She is adorable with all the T1D accessories. Thank you Mattel for making kids big and small feel seen.

Thought we were finally getting the diabetic Barbie, but received this in the mail instead. If it wasn’t actually going to come, I would have rather had them cancel my order instead of receiving this. My daughter was so upset.

My daughter was so excited to have a barbie that looked like her and used the same tech. What a great addition to the barbie family and even though my daughter is older ours is in a special light up barbie case in her room after unboxing her and playing with her for a few days.

As a Type 1 diabetic i absolutely LOVE this Barbie! I was able to get two for pick up at one of my local targets for myself and my niece who’s at an age she can learn about what i have and the devices i have that help me! She LOVES her new Barbie!
