Charoli Cullapa Almond Buchanania cochinchinensis, commonly known as Cuddapah almond, almondette, calumpong, Hamilton mombin, is a deciduous tree of the cashew family. In the Assamese, Bengali, Hindi, Nepali, and Urdu languages, it is known as chironji or piyal. In the Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi languages, it is known as charoli or chirauli. In the Sanskrit language, it is known as rjyatana, rajanadanha or priyala. The charoli tree is native to the Indian subcontinent, South Central China, and much of Southeast Asia. It is cultivated across India, primarily in the northwest. The charoli tree produces fruit that is edible to humans. The seeds are used as a cooking spice, especially in India. Charoli seeds are also used in the Ayurveda, Unani, and Siddha systems of medicine.
