40L Travel Backpack With Expansion - Open Story™

Excellent backpack. Tag says 35L but it does expand to 40L. We can't wait to take these on our trip. Love the water bottle holder. Padding for laptop is great also.

I never leave reviews but I had to leave a warning on this one. I bought this bag for a trip for the extra space (the reviews are correct, the sizing is slightly different from what’s listed in the details - it’s the same dimensions as the non-expandable bag, but this has a water bottle holder and expander — both of which I liked since it was the same price anyway). I loved the bag but the very first time I used it the strap completely snapped as soon as I got to the airport. I didn’t even have the bag that full or heavy. Target was great and issued a refund but I went my whole trip through Europe with a broken backpack after doing a ton of research to get this one. I am hoping I just got a defective bag but if you’re purchasing this to travel, wear it around for a bit before you leave for your trip to make sure the strap holds as mine broke basically immediately. I love Target and am a fan of everything I get there but this was a big disappointment for me so be careful!

Orderd a 40L backpack for overseas travel Received 35L . Will not accommodate my clothing for the long time of my trip

this backpack is such a neat concept. Full disclosure I haven't traveled with it yet. it's got an easy access front pocket for things you might want to grab during the flight (other reviews critiqued the pockets in this section - I could see them being helpful for my work stuff.) the laptop section is at the back of the back (alongside your back). The clothes section of the bag in the middle is roomy and can be expanded by a zipper (and then somewhat cinched down with the external straps). The tags on the bag say it's 35L not 40L as noted in other reviews and expands to 46L. The fabric for the expansion takes up a bit of room in the clothes section. It has a water bottle holder. I don't think it's an overly heavy bag. The bag doesn't have a frame so it is soft/squishy. the downside of this bag - it's frankly a smidge too big to fit the rules to be a personal item, as it's 19in tall. I set it next to the North face backpack I typically use as my personal item without issue and it's quite a bit larger. I was hoping this back pack could be my personal item (holding electronics and a few extra outfits) while also bringing a carry on roller bag. I'm going to give it a shot on my next delta flight, but wouldn't be surprised if they make me check my carry on. This backpack would be helpful when traveling with kids who are too small to manage their own roller bag or on road trips. In short, I like the bag but it may be too large to serve my intended purpose. if they made a smaller size that actually fit the personal item requirements, I'd snatch it up! it could be improved by having zippers that are compatible with TSA locks.

Its has lots of space and great for travel. I ordered 40L size. Recd 35L and I returned it. They sent another 35L. Why have two sizes in the website and obviously only have the 35L size. Its frustrating

It was way heavier than I expected. I wanted to take on a plane. Without anything in it - it should have been light! I'm so disappointed!

It is the perfect size and I don't have to check it at the airport I hope.

Quality is great but so inconvenient and clunky if you are flying. Super cute and wanted to love but took a trip and it made everything harder! Would work well for road trips or places where you need lots of room but definitely not something you want to be lugging around

Very roomy and well made. I love the compartments and the fact that it’s a comfortable backpack too. With the side opening (instead of at the top like most backpacks and you have to dig to get to the items that are on the bottom ) it’s much easier to access your item though than a traditional back pack. Great purchase!

The description of this backpack on the website is incorrect with regard to dimensions and capacity. While calculating capacity can be difficult, this backpack is essentially the same size as the 35L backpack with the addition of a zipper that when opened increases the thickness (height) of the backpack by 3 inches (my calculation). As a result of opening the zipper the 35L capacity is increased to about 45L (the tag that came with the backpack says it increases it to 46.5L). In the unexpanded size (35L), the backpack should qualify as a "Personal Item" on many domestic airlines if not over packed. And fits almost all "Carry On" when in the expanded (45L) mode. Additionally, this backpack has one mesh bottle holder pocket on the side that the 35L backpack does not have. I have only used the backpack once, but it appears to be well made and pretty durable. For the price, it compares very favorably with much more expensive travel backpacks.

I love this backpack! Lots of storage space, easy to navigate, very light and versatile. Great product for a great price!

There’s a discrepancy on the listing versus the actual product. The listing states it is a 40L bag but upon arrival the tag has it as a 35L bag. It seems like it will be a good bag to travel with but that’s my main concern is that the item description needs to be changed.
