Annie's Organic Classic Cheddar Mac and Cheese - 6oz

I love having an organic option of classic Mac and cheese to serve my kids. They love it!

I absolutely love Annie’s Mac. It has a creaminess and good flavor that can't be denied, and as a college student it’s a necessary budget stable for me as it is one of the few organic Mac’s of high quality (for its price) that is also sold in bulk. I typically purchase the variety Mac box. But my primary issue, as it seems with many other people in the reviews, is the use of sodium phosphate and silicone dioxide in the ingredients. I understand that the purpose for implementing both is primarily for the following: 1. Sodium Phosphate: prevents the cheese fat from separating and clumping, etc., needed for storage and cooking ease 2. Silicon Dioxide: another storage aid to prevent the cheese from becoming a solid block, etc. But what I don’t understand (especially as a product claiming to be fully organic and free of preservatives, and marketed to children) is why you haven’t switched to alternatives. There are other existing organic Mac’s that seem to not use these preservatives that don’t replace their entire noodle base with rice, or peas, or something else as we see with the vegan Mac’s, and there seems to be a solid research base for alternatives. Ex: potentially using starches or plant derived fibers to replace both sodium phosphate and silicone dioxide. It would be helpful to know if there is any effort to try and replace these, or to simply drop them entirely from your products. And to be completely honest, if dropping the preservatives with no functional replacement means having a less aesthetically pleasing experience, I feel this is an appropriate sacrifice to maintain true health standards unless it would be extremely detrimental to the product. I know people can be picky and if they see a single minor issue they may get dramatic but as long as there’s transparency and understanding is created then I feel people would accept it. Because as it is currently, these two ingredients aren’t looking so well research wise in terms of safety for consumption, and are potentially dangerous in excess. And I feel this is likely avoidable. It would be very unfortunate to have to drop Annie’s in order to avoid them.

We buy these all the time and love them for the family. These two boxes however both had no cheese sauce in them. Pretty disappointing but won’t stop us from buying again.

My favorite to feed my children since it has best ingredients . That’s cuz my kids loved Kraft until I started to care about the ingredients

We enjoyed this shell mac and cheese. The sauce is creamy, tasty. The small mac shells provided unexpected humor. They persisently suckered themselves to the ladle, as if they were an octopus.

They had to have changed the recipe! The noodles are great but the cheese sauce is borderline inedible now. Has a very weird chemically taste? I actually double checked my box to make sure it wasn't expired, that's how bad it tastes! Something is WAY off!!

don’t buy. Just opened up a box — only noodles inside. No cheese packets. Ugh. Where’s the quality control???

I had it for dinner last night and it was delicious! I wish this was WHOLE GRAIN and not white flour but at least it is organic. I added some extra grated cheese to enhance the taste.....added a bit of veggies to it - diced onion and scallions plus nutritional yeast to round it out nutritionally. Annie's was sold to a huge company - Annie doesn't own it anymore but the quality has stayed good. Read the label on Kraft Mac and Cheese in a box - a bunch of gunk - but Annie's is REAL FOOD and nothing artificial. I added some chickpea flour pasta to it to give it some fiber - not thrilled about white flour noodles so it needed some CPR boost

This product is great, but Target just increased the price of this from $2.99 to $3.89. Crazy!

Something changed recently with your organic macaroni & classic cheddar that my autistic daughter with ARFID will not eat it, this was her only safe food. We are going to have to switch to a feeding tube now which has drastically changed her quality of life. Once a happy 5 year old now a sad uncomfortable mess. Stop changing things that were fine to begin with.

I thought that this mac and cheese was so good! If I hadnt known better, I would have though it was the "blue box" - I will say, the cheese took longer to dissolve and mix in and it does require more milk and butter.

Very disappointed that Annie’s (even the organic) products have shifted to include sodium phosphate, which I have strong allergic reactions to (including hives and severe nausea). I had to stop eating Annie’s Mac & cheese. If your products are supposed to be organic & wholesome, why have a harsh preservative chemical in them?

Stay away from this Mac and cheese it doesn’t taste like anything. It might taste a little bit like chemicals. With that being said, it has a great texture.

Really impressed with this Mac and Cheese. Great taste but close enough to the version I grew up with to satisfy the kid in me.

This is our families, favorite mac & cheese. We tend to be mac & cheese, kind of sauce, and we love the fact that this is organic and has a great natural taste!

Did the ingredients change? This used to be a favorite but how is ‘silicon dioxide’ organic?? Really disappointed with the false advertising and the lack of quality and thoughtfulness in the ingredients. Won’t buy anymore.

I have to be careful with food additives, and mistakenly bought this because of the organic marketing. Unfortunately, it contains phosphates, making it inedible for kidney patients. I guess I should never assume something labeled organic is actually 100% organic.
