Cette étude pourrait s'appeler également l'Eudémonologie; ce serait donc un traité de la vie heureuse. Celle-ci pourrait à son tour être définie une existence qui, considérée au point de vue purement extérieur ou plutôt (comme il s'agit ici d'une appréciation subjective) qui, après froide et mûre réflexion, est préférable à la non-existence. La vie heureuse, ainsi définie, nous attacherait à elle par elle-même et pas seulement par la crainte de la mort; il en résulterait en outre que nous désirerions la voir durer indéfiniment...
