I'm in my late 30s and have gotten into wet shaving as a hobby. I love the nostalgia and ritual of it, and of course am researching (like a true nerd) all the old school shaving products. Never thought of Aqua Velva as anything other than a cheap aftershave, but have recently been intrigued by its history as America's first aftershave and all the buzz about the scent. So, I walked into my local Target, opened the cap and gave it a whiff, then put it back on the shelf and left. My first impression was that it smells like a balding man working behind the counter at a bowling alley. But I kept sniffing it every time I shopped at Target, and actually started liking it. It has a talc, leather, menthol scent that initially I didn't care for, but now it smells more complex to me. I don't smell the purported bergamot and lavender, but I'm sure they're folded into the talc. P.S. Target has the best price around on this!
