This was the most effective psoriasis controlling shampoo and it didn’t destroy my curls. The new formula is terrible. Doesn’t do anything for the flaking. I have psoriasis patches again within a week. Not only is it ineffective now, but my hair feels like straw.

I loved the old formula, and would have recommended it to anyone. This new formula no longer contains zinc, doesn't clean the scalp as well, And is very Drying. I don't recommend the new formula to anyone!!

Like everyone else who has been recently reviewing, I too repurchased this previously beloved shampoo only to be totally disappointed to find the formula had been changed. I contacted As I Am about this and was informed that zinc pyrithione (ZPT) was removed in order to “meet updated global requirements.” Apparently ZPT has been banned in the EU since 2022 after it was classified as a carcinogenic ingredient. So there’s probably no hope that they will revert back to the old formula. While I agree that this new formulation pales significantly in comparison, I guess I would rather not be voluntarily absorbing a carcinogen while washing my hair.

The OG formula was the only thing that worked for me. They recently changed the formula and it does not work. At all. Doesn’t cleanse, no ease to scalp irritation. I’m so disappointed.

This shampoo had been my favorite for years, the 1% pyrithione zinc made it SO EFFECTIVE against my dandruff. BUT this active ingredient is no longer present in the formula, which renders this shampoo totally useless against dandruff. The biggest letdown of the year for me. Please bring back the old formula, As I Am, please.

Looks like as I am changed the formula. It no longer has salicylic acid and zinc pyrithione. It also is no longer for hair types 3&4. It now says “for all hair types”. Which is very disappointing because it is very hard for POC or people with textured hair types to find products specifically made for them. It also is no longer white. It is this clear translucent liquid. So far after using it my scalp feels fine, only time will tell. I have mild to moderate Seborrheic Dermatitis. This is the only shampoo that has ever helped me. I hope I am still able to use it. I will give it a chance.

This product used to work great for my scalp and was the only thing that would keep the flakes and itching to a minimal. They recently changed the formula, the products no longer have zinc and salicylic acid. I'm really disappointed that these two ingredients are no longer in there. The product isn't the same anymore. Complete waste of money.

The company made a formula change that makes this shampoo completely useless for dandruff. Prior to this formula change, this is the only dandruff shampoo that ever did anything for me. I am so disappointed in the company’s attempt at cutting costs and the quality of their products. Welcome to late stage capitalism, I guess.

Not sure when this happened since there was zero forewarning, but they've removed the active ingredient, zinc pyrithione, and replaced it with piroctone olamine. There are a few other ingredient changes as well. The product itself is no longer opaque white without the zinc, but a translucent-ish milky white instead. As of posting this review, Target still has the old photos and description up, but As I Am's website is updated. Basically, every single review prior to this formula change is no longer relevant.

Gonna repurchase this forever. Please don’t ever change the formula! I used to have flaky and itchy scalp (especially with braids) and this is the main reason why I ended up buying in the first place because my scalp was so itchy and flaky. I hated it!!! I now LOVE my scalp! I haven’t had any itchiness or flaking since using this product. I won’t say it’s 100% more like 99% still a little itching and when I say little, I do mean LITTLE! But NOTHING compared to my scalp before! Miracle shampoo! I also have the oil too.

I’ve had pesky dandruff for about 10 years. My hair gets oily, but at the same time my scalp gets so dry and flaky, and there’s a lot of oil build up too. It’s a weird combo. I’ve tried everything from home remedies, to Selsun Blue, to Nizoral, and they would work initially but then end up drying out my scalp and make it flake immediately after washing (even when switching from regular shampoo to dandruff shampoo). I get insecure about my scalp, and my friend finally recommended this shampoo to me. It has literally saved my scalp and my confidence. I no longer have flakes that cake my scalp, and no longer have all the healthy oils stripped from my head. I have straight hair and this literally works wonders. Been using for a month and there has been no signs of flakes unlike the other brands I use. I will forever be repurchasing!!!

This can be a low suds shampoo. If there isn’t enough suds, add more water before adding more product. The second cleanse will be much more sudsy. This product has completely fixed a struggling, flaking and irritated scalp when other scalp shampoos didn’t help. It also fixed my brother’s scalp immediately. It has a white, milky color and almost feels like a cream. It has a tea tree scent. You only need a quarter sized amount. You’ll see best results if you use this every wash day, not just when you have an issue. Haven’t seen a flake on the scalp since using it.

Buy it. I have type 2b hair and have always had a dry and itchy scalp, but since I started using this line I don’t itch at all and I barely lose any hair in the shower (I used to lose a ton). I use the scalp oil, shampoo, and cowash.
