I’ve been using this product for years, and the old version worked wonderfully. However, the version with the new packaging causes breakouts on my face, and even after trying to adjust to it for several months, I’m still getting pimples.

Works for my sensitive skin
I have sensitive, eczema prone skin. I am 64 years of age. This is the only retinol product I've been able to use. I just started using it, so I am unable to comment on how well it works on wrinkles or skin texture, but at least I found something I can use.

NOT exactly trye statements
I have it one star because 1. I like Avene but this product is not what they claim ‘stronger than retinol’ 5x 10x with the little caveat asterisk next to the statement even though you can’t find their caveats….its NOT stronger than most retinol/tretinoin. It seems it has clean ingredients accord the list but how can we even verify that? Or Believe it when they’re making outlandish claims? I’m sticking to my prescription strength and sending this back esp after it did irritate little which is STRANGE considering I have full strength tretinoin that doesn’t irritate? So I guess I’ll never know what’s really in the ingredients

I have sensitive skin and most retinoids irritate me, but this one hasn’t caused burning or peeling. It’s creamy, easy to apply, and layers well with moisturizer. Results are subtle but noticeable — my skin looks smoother and more even, and I’ve had less dullness overall. It’s not a dramatic overnight product, but it feels effective without being harsh. Pricey, but worth it if you want a gentle retinoid you can actually stick with.

Not for the super sensitive.
Tried this as a “last chance for retinoids”. I have mature skin prone to sensitivity (or maybe hypersensitivity). I tried a half a pea size for a “short contact” trial, and couldn’t even make 10 mins because it started to burn. Washed it off, used Thermal Water and Tolerance afterward, and my skin is still a bit red this morning,

Bring back the old formula!
I really, really miss the old formula. This new formula has irritated my rosacea and left me with several angry red bumps on my face. The old formula was so gentle yet effective. I will be switching brands to find something better.

Sensitive Skin must-have
This is the first time I have used an anti-aging product with actives. I have tried many over the years and my skin can't tolerate. Not the case with this, it's perfect. I have been using this for 3 weeks, 3 days a week with no irritation. I have not noticed a major changes in my skin, however my skin is calm and hydrated. I will continue to use this product.

I have never been able to use this type of product, as I have very sensitive skin. Eczema and rosacea-prone. However I have been using this twice weekly, to build up to 5 days a week. I have no irritation, or redness. I use tolerance moisturizer after applying a small amount of this product to my face, neck and chest area. This is a keeper for me.

I’ve used this product for 10 years. Both the eye and face treatments. New formula burns and feels hot! I haven’t tried the face one yet. Not sure what to do. Does anyone know of another good retinoid product?

Bring back the original! I’ve been using this product for years, but new formula is very harsh and immediately made my skin red and irritated, with a faint orange hue in spots. This is the only change I made in my regime and was immediate after first use. So disappointed- the original product was FIVE STARS!

New formula is very different, test a sample first
I’ve been using this product for 3y now, and just had to open a new package because I ran out of the old one. The new formula seems very different. It feels warm, almost irritatingly so on my skin. And it smells faintly like burnt rubber. I’ve only had it on for about 15mins and can already tell I’m going to need to wash it off before I can go to sleep. So disappointing, because I really liked the old version and it’s worked well for my sensitive skin.

Have used the .05 retinal crème for 10 years. The “new and improved” version is terrible. Upon first use immediately was harsh on my skin and neck. Bright red and itchy. Never fix something if it isn’t broke!
