Q: How do you use it - get a flame.

A: To operate our child-resistant BIC® Multi-purpose Lighter, you must: 1) hold the utility lighter with your thumb resting on the latch and your index finger on the trigger, 2) depress the latch with the tip of your thumb and hold in, and 3) pull the trigger with your index finger. The child-resistant mechanism will automatically reset after each use. There is also a helpful video on the product page on Target.com

I bought one at the grocery store. They were half price. It doesn't work. I found a video on YouTube showing how to use it. (I had already tried that, but thought there might be another step.) Instructions do not come with the lighter (only warnings) nor on their website. Terrible.

The flame is way too big and there's no flame control. This saves BIC money on tge manufacturing line, but wastes butane and will need to be replaced sooner. Next time I'll buy Scripto long lighters.

The overall quality of the lighters are the reason I’m only rating this a so-so purchase. One of the large lighters was very hard to light (very stiff mechanism) and if it was windy forget it. I use these to burn trash and yard waste and after only using the lighter a handful of times I added it to the fire pit as well as it just would not light.

These could be great for a gorilla. But for a real person with regular hands, it's ridiculously hard to work these. It takes both hand to depress both triggers simultaneously. I've used lots of 2-trigger devices, and it doesn't have to be this difficult! I think I'll get one that I can work from the dollar store.

Producing a lighter of this complexity which is NOT refillable is an abomination. It's not just about the ecosystem... think of taking this product on a boat, for a multi-year journey - do I need a box of them, to make sure I can lit my BBQ each night? BIC should be ashamed.

This lighter has two flaws. Its really hard to squeeze for those of us with arthritis and there is no way to adjust the flame. Because the flame is so long, it leaves black soot on the candle holders while trying to light the wick. These are my least favorite Bic products and I wont buy them again.

I get it: Legal and an overzealous team of engineers probably designed this safety feature (the incredibly stiff thumb lever) to reduce liability arising from child hands getting ahold of the lighters and starting a fire. But my own thumb is absolutely throbbing right now from trying to keep that stupid lever depressed while squeezing the trigger with my index finger long enough to actually light a campfire. I gave up. There will be no campfire. It's a lighter. You've over-engineered and overthought it. As a mechanical engineer, I have a high confidence in my observation and statement. Enough already.

We love these lighters for our fireplace..they come in handy when you are trying to light a bigger fire and last a while only drawback is that they are not refillable

I used this lighter so much for many different things, and it worked great. Yet, the lighter looks great, like it would work great, but has not gas. So... it seems like a big waste not being able to refill it... is that it? This item would be perfect if we could refill it.

I've kept one of these lighters in a lighter cozy in my pocket for years, meeting the old Boy Scout admonition that a person should always be able to kindle a fire. With things being uncertain as they've currently become, I elected to stock up with what should be a lifetime supply (16 lighters). I store them in the freezer in the hopes the gas leakage will be minimized over the coming years.
