B&D has made a change to these trimmers which greatly reduces their effectiveness. They used to have a torque control dial on the handle, which allowed the trimmer to cut thicker branches for a shorter time. I just got one of the new ones, minus torque control. The 40v allows it to cut for a long time, but with the single torque setting, it’s as weak as a 20v. Very disappointing. My bad for not making sure to get the model with the torque control.

The first time I charged the 40V Lithium battery all went well. After using it and attempting to recharge the charger gave me a fault that was indicating that the battery was to HOT to charge. This added time to the recharge, was very bad, because the battery only lasted 22 minutes when string trimmer. The battery did finally recharge. The next recharge went even worst. This time the charger gave me a fault saying that the battery was bad. Needles to say this did not make very happy.echarge attempt was even worst. g

Horrible BATTERY life, cannot exchange batteries.

I purchased this Black and Decker dustbuster flex thinking that a "superior Lithium" battery was going to last a reasonable amount of time and that I would be able to replace the battery once spent. The battery wound up having a very short usable life span. When I place it on charge and once is fully charged, the vacuum lasts for less than one and a half minutes. I meticulously maintain this vacuum, regularly cleaning the filter and canister. I read on line that the batteries are soldered to each other, unabling a simple battery exchange. Wasted money, lesson learned, no more Black and Decker products.

Battery charger flashing defective on first charge

I followed the instructions to fully charge the battery before first use, then it started flashing red as if defective, as per the manual. Whether actually defective or not, this is poor for a new product and no clear way of getting a replacement battery.

We bought this over a year ago. The battery no longer held a charge and Black & Decker sent us a new one at no cost. We love it. Excellent power, light weight, easy to use and to clean. Glad we were able to get a new one.

It’s perfect for getting into small places or vacuuming areas that accumulate dirt. It saves us from needing and using the large vac too often.

Purchased this little vac in 2017 or 2018 to use in the small living quarters of my horse trailer. Used occasionally in place of a dustpan and brush it has performed as expected and most of the time was plugged in to charge, shutting off automatically once fully charged. Only recently (2020j has it stopped working after less than five minutes. I was disappointed when calling the manufacturer that this model has been discontinued and there is no battery replacement. Alas, all good things must end. I have had the best customer service from Black and Decker and highly recommend their other products, of which I have many.

I bought this more than 2 years ago and I have 4 dogs (had 5). I use it almost daily and it is a workhorse. I love the hose on it. I use it in the house, in the car and on my dogs. They love to be vacuumed. It charges quickly and the charge lasts a long time. I wish I had bought 2 at the time.
It was great, but now...

I loved this vacuum, but lately it is just a pain. The machine keeps turning off after just a few seconds. And yes, I changed the filter. I have seen this issue reported by quite a few people, but there does not seem to be any solution. It also just doesn't seem to work very well anymore. I am so sad, as this was my "go to" little vacuum.

works well before the vacuum powers itself off after less than a minute. can be repeatedly be restarted for a short time of operation. conclude that battery is not drained. filters clean, so not over heating. just plain lousy design.

Bought this in Feb 2020 to have ready for the Spring season. Spool holds plenty of line, powerful for thimming, battery holds charge very good! Blower could be a little more powerful, good for cleaning off sidewalk and deck after cutting, but not strong for gathering a backyard full of leaves.

I've had this vacuum for over a year, and have for the most part been happy with the vacuum performance. Pros: Good suction. The flex hose, and attachments work very good while detailing my vehicles. Pet hair attachment is awesome! Reasonable product weight. Cons: Battery life - I get around 15-20 minutes of battery life. Much better that other reviewers have experienced (Don't know what I'm doing differently), and is adequate for doing most cars, just don't expect to do more than one in an outing. Now here's the rub: If the unit recharged in 30-60 minutes the battery life wouldn't be such an issue, but as other reviewers have stated the charger, and charging circuit on this product is ridiculously slow. Like 10-12 Hours to charge. After looking at the wall wart I see why. They are only charging at 150 milliamps, this is a insanely low current for the 18650 cells that they are using in the product. Most products using these cells ( B&D are using very good quality cells by the way) charge at 500 to 1000 milliamps or more which should yield a full charge in under an hour quite safely. Product really needs to have the charging circuit revamped, and the addition of a plug in cord for a vehicle 12v plug would really be a handy addition.
The worst car vacuum ever

I bought this vacuum yesterday. It takes 13 hours to charge, so I left it plugged in overnight. I went out to my car this morning, excited to use all of the great attachments this comes with. I had almost finished one seat and it clicked off, out of power. I am outraged that they pretend this is an acceptable car vacuum and even advertise the "long-lasting suction" when it only lasted for 10 minutes. Additionally the curve of the handle makes it uncomfortable for vacuuming the floor of your car. If you are thinking of buying this vac, run as far away as you can.
So far no complaints.

This is my 4th B&D battery powered purchase of lawn equipment. Have been satisfied with all. Just bought this combo set today at Lowe's, and have only used minimally. So far, no complaints. Like the fact that the battery is compatible in chargers with my other B&D equipment.

I bought this from another source but didn't look into it deep enough and ended up with the cheaper version of the 40v trimmer. Since it is only a single line trimmer the trimmer vibration causing my fatigue in my hands. The other problem is the vibration cause the lower handle grip to jump the cogs while operating and it was getting annoying. The battery did last longer than I expected and lasted over 30 minutes but of course I have a lot of trees and did not finish before it went dead. I expected that and have another battery coming.

I would give 5 stars except one crucial thing. It takes hours and hours to charge and then only works for 10 minutes. Now the plus is it works great for those 10 minutes. Love the pet attachment but it’s taking me 3 days to vacuum my stairs. So plus when it’s charged works great. Negative is the charge doesn’t last and recharge takes forever.
