Borderline Personality Disorder is a startlingly common condition, affecting as many as 3% of people under the age of 18. Characterized by struggles with emotional regulation, self-image, self-worth, mood swings, and impulse control, and often appearing alongside other conditions like anxiety, depression, and substance use, BPD is a condition any parent with an adolescent should be aware of. A long-trusted BPD reference, Borderline Personality Disorder in Adolescents offers parents, caregivers, and adolescents a complete understanding of this complex and tough-to-treat disorder. Written by one of the foremost experts in the field, this fully up-to-date and comprehensive guide includes:- A thorough explanation of what BPD is that brings into focus what we know, and don't know, about this condition
- Prognosis and treatment options, including recent advances and an overview of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), the most common and effective treatment
- A deep dive into the development of BPD research
