They were a little big to start I thought, but he soon grew into them. He now wears size 1 shoe and they still fit well. They fit pretty true to size of the size chart, I thought. Hope that helps!

I bought these (boy's 6-pack ankle athletic socks, gray with colored heel through toe box) for my son when he was also wearing size 9 shoe. I bought "M" medium and they were a little big, but he soon grew into them. He's now a size 1 shoe and they still fit well (he's now 5 years old, so they also lasted well). With that in mind, I'd recommend a medium for your size 9 shoe wearing son.

I bought these last week and my son wore them for the first time today. He ran around in his socks in his grandparents backyard for a few hours. I would neverrrr expect both socks to have huge holes from running around in just socks for a few hours! My son is 4 years old. He wasn’t going nuts! It’s crazy these holes formed after only a few hours! Hes definitely run around outside in just his socks (gap brand socks) before and those were fine, no holes. But these cat and jack ones were ruined in a day.

I was weary with the diverse reviews these socks have but options for 70%+ cotton socks are limited so we gave them a shot. Glad we did, we’ve had no issues with any fraying, ripping, wearing out of these. Stain like any other white sock does, not more or less. Absorbs sweat, comfy for both my boys and going on 4-5 months now without spontaneously combusting a so of the reviews suggested lol.
