Use the tips & visuals in this guide to make taking your child's body measurements easy-peasy.

Dont have a fabric tape measure? Use a shoelace or pant leg to measure. Then, lay it flat & use a ruler or tape measure to get a numerical measurement.

How to measure

  • Height

    Have your child stand in front of the fridge.Mark the top of the head with a magnet. Measure a straight line from floor to magnet.

  • Chest

    Have your child make airplane arms. Wrap tape measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping it level & snug.

  • Waist

    With your child bending to one side, measure the point where the waist flexes naturally. Keep the tape level & comfortably loose.

  • Hip

    Have your child stand like a tall tree with feet together. Measure a level line around the fullest part of the hips & seat.

  • Inseam

    Take a pair of pants that fit your child well. Measure along the seam from crotch to leg opening.

    We love how soft these pants are, last year’s fit, and that they come in individual sizes instead of combined (ex. a 6 instead of 6/7). However, they are HUGE on a skinny kid. Please bring back the slim option! We will have to return these and find another brand that fits a slim child

    I have been buying the same kind of pants from target but with the cuffs on the legs. I wanted to try those so they would be easier to get on and off. They run way bigger than the other pants. The 4t fits like a 5t and is very baggy in the butt and waist. My son is upset from having to roll them up so not sure I can even use them until he grows into them.

    Inseam/length of pants not consistent

    I am a 5'2" slim adult woman and order size XXL in elastic waistband pants from the boy's or girls' section at Target. I ordered three colors: navy, black, and beige. The beige pants were the ones I was the most excited to receive because I've been wanting a pair of "khaki" pants for so long. Unfortunately with the original pair and replacement pair I was sent, the inseam on the beige pants is shorter than the black and navy pants. The black and navy pants are the perfect length -- the beige pant inseam is too short. It's a shame because they fit perfectly in the waist and I planned to order two or three other colors but am not going now because I don't know what to expect inseam wise.
