Description
Have a lactose sensitivity? No problem. Try our Breyers Lactose-Free Vanilla Ice Cream. It’s the same great vanilla, just without the lactose. A creamy, delicious low-fat ice cream made with real vanilla bean specks. Our low-calorie ice cream contains 1/3 fewer calories than regular ice cream. Can you count all the specks in your spoon? While you’re counting, imagine those marvelous specks as vanilla pods growing in Madagascar. Our vanilla is 100% sustainably sourced and through our partnership with Rainforest Alliance, your Breyers Lactose-Free Ice Cream is also supporting farmers and their families in Madagascar. We believe that the quality of our ingredients makes the delicious vanilla frozen dessert, and that’s why we follow the spirit of William Breyer’s Pledge of Purity, which he started in 1866. Back in his day, he made a stand to use only the best milk, cream, sugar, and fruit in his Breyers ice cream in Philadelphia. He would not compromise quality, and now more than 150 years later, we still follow his philosophy. We pledge to use only high-quality ingredients like colors and flavors from natural sources, 100% Grade-A milk and cream from American cows not treated with artificial growth hormones, and sustainably farmed fruit and vanilla. Very tasty, but probably a good litmus test as to whether you are truly lactose intolerant (milk sugar) or casein sensitive (milk protein). If you can eat this with no side effects, you are lactose intolerant. If you have terrible digestive issues after eating it (as I did), your issue is actually with casein. Hard way to find out, but it tasted great going in.

This icecream has too much "head" in it. The taste is fantastic and true to breyer's vanilla. However, their is so much air mixed in as the edges melt you can see the bubbles in the mixture. When you take a bite the texture is off and feels like you have foam in your mouth. (to be extreme but true). I also think it is false advertising that this has a vanilla bean scoop of icecream on the front and there is not a single vanilla bean when you eat this. This has potential to be the best product on the shelf. Stop adding air to reduce the amount of product. Just raise the price of the container. I will pay it!

New Ingredients Made Me Sick, LF Breyers Vanilla

Why did Breyers change those simple great ingredients to ingredients that cause some of us to have serious digestive issues of bloating, indigestion, diarrhea, and pain? I have been buying Breyers Lactose-Free Vanilla Ice Cream for many years and previously I absolutely loved it, often buying two cartons at the time to freeze for later. I have food allergies, and the Breyers lactose-free vanilla had been a way to enjoy a dessert without complications. HOWEVER, RECENTLY: Two cartons ago, I noticed it had an artificial taste, unlike the great, pure taste of real vanilla bean ice cream it previously was. My son noticed the same thing, and he commented it must have been a bad batch. I wondered why I was having so many digestive issues. Not until tonight when I opened a new carton did I notice that the ingredients have changed for the worse with cheap, artificial junk in it. Somehow I knew the ingredients must have changed, so now I know that I will have to stop eating this ice cream and go to another brand that is gluten-free and lactose free. With whey in the product I cannot see how the product is listed as lactose free. If Breyers should happen to make a version of this ice cream with those original, simple ingredients, I would buy it again. Until then, I will not buy this product again. I am very disappointed in this changed product!!!

Be aware, this product isn’t actually lactose free. It just has a lactase enzyme added in like taking a lactaid pill. So many lactose free labels mislead people like this and still end up getting sick. I much prefer the Bryers oatmilk ice cream instead because it’s truly dairy and lactose free.

This is the first thing I've eaten in a long time that made me very ill. Horrible stomach cramps started within 30 minutes of eating it, and I probably only ate less than half a cup. In the bathroom and out of commission for the night. Flu like sweats and I can't get the cramps to stop.

This is not ice cream, it is actually a combination of ice milk and ice cream. Cream is actually the third ingredient. It is not bad in terms of taste, but you can definitely tell the difference. I didn't even notice the labeling, until I was disappointed in finding it to be less satisfying. It also is not made from vanilla beans

How is this lactose free when it has skim milk and cream listed under ingredients
1 reply from BreyersExpert team - 4 months ago
Thanks for taking the time to ask about our Vanilla Ice Cream Lactose Free. We use skim milk dry powder as one ingredient and liquid cream for a milkfat source. Therefore, to properly state our sources by descending weight as required, both are shown on the label - we hope this helps!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was never able to eat ice cream because I'm lactose intolerant and someone two months ago told me that breyers made a lactose-free ice cream I couldn't believe it I bought some I was afraid to eat it thinking I was going to get horribly sick and it was wonderful I am so thankful to breyers for making this ice cream! You've may have made it for years I don't know I just found out about a couple months ago and I'm so glad I did!

They changed the formula and I don't like it! The flavor is fine, but the texture is not what I expect from an ice cream. I keep my freezer extra cold and this "light ice cream" never got hard. That's not natural and I hate being reminded of that every time I scoop some out of the carton. There may be people who like that. The problem is that, because I'm lactose intolerant, I can't just choose something different. Maybe Breyer's figured they had a captive customer base so we would accept whatever they give us. Instead, I want Breyer's to try to make their specialty products with the same high quality as the best of their regular ice creams. We know that you can do better, because you already did it. Please return to the old formula!

Not sure, if it’s really if it’s lactose free ?Taste great but not for me :( . I am lactose, free intolerance, gluten-free and egg free . I bought Breyers vanilla lactose free ice cream and it totally disagreed with me. I will go back to my plant base ice cream. Bought it because it said gluten-free and lactose free and it didn’t have eggs in it.. My parents loved it and my parents are happy to be a Guinea pig vs me throwing the lactose, free ice cream away.
