Q: is the rack rust free?
A: I would suggest spray painting it with a rastolium spray paint if the coating eventually flakes. Mine did after 6-7 years of use and I just take it outside in the summer and hit any spots with a wire brush and a bit of paint. 10+ years and I wouldn't give mine up for nothing.

Q: can the rack be used in different configurations? Such as only a smaller part (such as 1 wing of it) at a time?
A: Depending on how much you put on it, but from my experience as a user of one, not really. It becomes off balance.

Q: Will this fit a king size comforter for drying?
A: It possibly could, I'm looking at my rack now & if you had the "wings" lay flat, I can imagine the comfortor hanging on it that way, it might still possibly touch the floor though. It could maybe be tried with the wings in the up position, but depending on how heavy the wet comforter is, i am not certain the rack would be able to support the weight. I have used mine to dry an xl queen before but i had hangers on the shower curtain rod which i used to clip one side of the comforter and then draped the rest over my rack. I can kind of see this method working on king size also, but again, depends on how heavy it gets. Hope this helps
