About the Book

Carried Through Cancer is a 70-day devotional filled with uplifting stories from dozens of women who have traveled the cancer journey, each devotion offering spiritual support, emotional encouragement, rich community, and daily reminders that God shows up when people reach out to Him, and He is there to carry you through your story.

Book Synopsis

Whether it's yours or a loved one's, a cancer diagnosis changes everything. It stops you in your tracks as you put everything you have into fighting for life. It can feel isolating being thrown into the unknown chaos of treatment.

But you are not alone.

With uplifting stories from dozens of women who have been where you are, Carried Through Cancer provides emotional and spiritual support, encouragement, and community in its true stories of God-filled moments within the hard and heartbreaking road of cancer.

God meets some people in their fear in the exam room and others in the shower where the flowing water drowns out tears, but regardless of the location, this 70-day devotional demonstrates that God shows up when people reach out to Him, and He is there to carry you through your story.

Review Quotes

"As a physician, I seek God's word in the morning and read a devotional that always seems to dovetail into my day. In Carried Through Cancer, Kim Harms shares the stories of women who have gone through difficult physical and emotional events. When you read their stories, you are drawn into their lives. I love Philippians 4:6-7 because it comforts me when I become anxious about life's twists and turns. Jesus tells us many times throughout the Bible that he will be with us, always, wherever we go. Kim reminds us of that truth in her devotional stories. May God be glorified in the sharing."
-- Susan L. Beck, DO, MPH
Breast Surgeon and Medical Director, Katzmann Breast Center

"While reading Carried Through Cancer, each devotional made me feel as if trusted friends were holding my hand through an unexpected diagnosis and every stage of treatment. Author Kim Harms deftly tells the stories of cancer survivors who found hope and purpose as they endured surgeries, chemo, radiation, through good test results and bad. Harms doesn't sugar coat the tears, the fear, and the wrestling with faith that are part of fighting cancer. Even so, this devotional is filled with stories of how friends showed up at the hospital to sit beside on chemo days, and of how God showed during sleepless nights filled with doubt to whisper "Peace, be still, I am with you." I predict that well-thumbed copies of Carried Through Cancer will soon sit on the nightstand of many who are being treated for or have survived cancer. Furthermore I believe fresh copies will be on countless bookshelves, waiting for their owners to give to friends who will one day receive a cancer diagnosis."
-- Jolene Philo

"You are not alone, and with God, you can do this. Not only that, but God can use this for good. That is the core message of this beautiful book of devotions written to encourage anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer. Kim Harms, a survivor herself, does a beautiful job weaving hope into the stories of others who have navigated the cancer journey. Her book is a message of faith and fortitude in the face of cancer."
-- Mary Portzen

"Cancer--it's the word no one wants to hear in a cold, sterile doctor's office, the word that buries too many of our loved ones, the word that shakes our core and whispers defeat. Even still, God's goodness emerges from the cracks and crannies of hearts broken by cancer. His love offers healing and beauty through not only doctors and surgeons but His Word, friendship, and most of all, His unwavering presence. The personal stories Kim shares, woven into touching devotionals, are proof of this healing and beauty, a hard-fought-for proof that proclaims, yes, indeed, God is good. No matter what."
-- Peyton Garland

"The first word of this devotional is "realistically", but any individual swimming through the rough waters of this disease will tell you...realistically is the only way one can paddle through the waves. This "real" devotional digs deep into the soul to help cancer patients and family members find encouragement. Harms does a beautiful job in Carried Through Cancer to walk with readers through their journey. Touching. Beneficial. Helpful, and yes...realistically written, this book is a must have for those facing cancer."
-- Cindy K. Sproles
Novelist and family member of a cancer survivor

"I had goosebumps on the first page! As a Physician Assistant in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, I have had the honor of caring for breast cancer survivors for over a decade. Kim Harms, a warrior herself, shares poignant stories of our Lord's provision in our darkest times. Carried Through Cancer, is the warm hug and gentle hand all breast cancer warriors need."

"Our circumstances don't change who God is--they reveal who He is. My experience with triple negative breast cancer reminded me that even in the hardest moments, God is present. He loves, cares, comforts, and provides what we need each day. Carried Through Cancer is filled with stories that echo this truth. I pray the words inside will wrap you in encouragement, strengthen your hope, and remind you that you are never alone."
