I had high hopes for this to help restore the moisture barrier of my skin, but it didn't work out. My skin is very dry and sensitive, prone to rosacea and dermatitis, and breaking out due to sensitivities and easily clogged pores. For the past couple years I've only been able to use water and oil cleansing to clean my skin and somewhat manage these issues, but it still isn't the best solution for me. Good news is that this cleanser did effectively clean off my sunscreen and very light makeup, it didn't leave my skin feeling completely stripped like all other cleansers do, and it didn't break me out like every other nonfoaming cleanser does. Bad news is that it sensitized my skin even more over the course of a week and has left the surface level of my skin drier and flakier than usual despite moisturizing (assuming the residue left by the cleanser is exasperating it). My moisturizer is not working because it cannot get through all the flaky dead skin, even with light exfoliation with a gentle cloth every night to remove the cleanser. Typically, that keeps my flakes away, even when just cleansing with water. By the way, it is not a thick creamy cleanser like I thought it would be, it's a watered down lotion-y texture. If you also have sensitive skin, definitely get the travel size before committing to this larger one, like I did.
The ingredients list as shown here does not match the ingredients of the same product bought off my local Target shelves in October 2019. Here is the correct ingredient list for the CereVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser:
Purified water, glycerin, cetearyl alcohol, benhentrimonium methosulfate, ceramide 3, ceramide 6-11, ceramide 1, hyaluronic acid, cholesterol, PEG-40 steate, glyceryl stearate, stearayl alcohol, polysorbate 20, potassium phosphate, dipotassium phosphate, sodium louroyl lactylate cetyl alcohol, disodium EDTA, phytosphigosine, methylparaben, propylparaben, carbomer, xanthan gum
Not used to the texture and the fact that it does not foam. Because I’ve only exclusively used foam cleansers my whole life, it feels like my face isn’t getting cleaned, but I’m sure it is. I like that it’s hydrating, doesn’t make the skin feel tight afterwards.
Switching to Cerave products has transformed my skin. Even before starting Tretinoin, I made the switch to this gentle skin care line because I was desperate to soothe my stripped skin. I had previously been using every skin care line under the sun geared towards acne and all they did was dry my skin out, make it look dull, burn, itch, irritate, and no improvement in acne. I tried La Roche Posay, Paula's Choice, Neutrogena, Proactiv, DermaE, and none of them worked for me. This cleanser is perfect for anyone with sensitive skin that gets acne-prone due to dehydration. If you cake makeup on your face, you will probably not love this cleanser unless you combine it with a makeup remover first. If you keep your skincare plain Jane and only wear sunscreen on your face during the day, this cleanser is superb.
