One night, when Tyler lets slip his relationship with the American consul, Chana lights up with interest and asks if he can orchestrate a meeting.

With a backdrop of glitzy ex-pat parties and diplomatic galas, Chana conjures a plot involving the consul that sets into motion a dark chain of events. Tyler naively trails along as Chana and her friends suddenly become part of a violent conspiracy barreling toward a shocking conclusion.

About the Author

Lawrence Osborne is a critically acclaimed novelist, journalist, and screenwriter based in Bangkok. He is the author of eight novels, including Ballad of a Small Player, Beautiful Animals, and The Forgiven, which was adapted into a film starring Ralph Fiennes and Jessica Chastain. Osborne is one of only three contemporary novelists commissioned to write a new Philip Marlowe novel, Only to Sleep, which was a finalist for the Edgar Award. In the past decade, four of his novels have been New York Times Notable Book selections and chosen as Best Books of the Year by The Economist, The Guardian, The New Yorker, NPR, The New York Times, and The Washington Post.
