Moldy!

Dehumidify - 13 days ago

This used to be a great product, but it recently arrived with black pepper-sized specs of mold. A friend had the same issue, used the unit, and it made her home smell moldy. It also released larger chunks of mold from within the unit. Since this problem is an issue for many units likely designed in the same factory, I’ve been using a unit from Dravonic with the same accessible coils (so that it can be dried for four hours a day, to avoid mold growth) that's been great.

JUNK!! Stopped working after 1 year. I didn't realize it stopped working for a couple of weeks...of course it was 2 weeks beyond their 1 year warranty and Midea would not stand behind their product. I will NEVER buy another Midea product again!!!

great: works as it should, and clears a large apartment of humidity I hadn't previouslyy noticed was so bad.
Good, but needs some bucket design tweaks.

Removes a lot of moisture, but could have better designed bucket. It is tricky to empty without splashing water all over. Also the design should be modified to make the bottom flat - you can't set it down. Should also stop filling a little sooner. Even a half inch lower would make it easier to dump. The red level indicator is nicely designed. Have not used the hose function yet.

Not accurate humidistat

I bought this mid-end of May, about a month later of use, it wouldn't continuously drain anymore. I later figured out it might be the hose I was using...though it was connected to a different brand dehumidifier for the last 3 yrs, cleaning out the hose (of gunk) didn't need to be done but maybe twice a year. For some reason, it was already clogged within a month, with this new appliance (Midea). I do like that the device seems to defrost on its own, so far. I regularly need to run the device - I found out in "turbo" mode it runs/operates continuously, and when that is turned off, it runs on/off as needed, per it's detection of humidity level. BUT the biggest issue/fault, is not the hose clogging and the device not continuously draining (which results in having to manually empty the bucket....which is why one would use a continuous drain connection, if they don't want to regularly have to manually empty the bucket), but rather a separate humidity gauge I have detects the room is 50% pretty consistently, though the Midea device setting I have it at is for 35%. My previous dehumidifier (Frigidaire) would at least get the humidity down to 40% when it was set at 35%...so the Frigidaire device did better at getting the room humidity lower (to the setting I had it at - 35%). The Midea is only getting it to 15% higher than the setting I desire/need.

I bought our first dehumidifier a month ago after researching with Consumer Reports. I was so pleased with quality of the Midea 50 Pint Dehumidifier I bought another one for the other side of our basement. The quality of the original packaging and the unit itself so far are top notch. Much quieter than older units we had. So far very pleased with purchase and would highly recommend!

LOTS of wind noise drowns out the mechanical noise

Purchased this unit to replace a different model Midea of the same capacity whose pump failed after 2 years. This unit intakes air from the back and blows it straight up. Think about that when you are considering purchasing it to make sure it will be suitable in the location you want it in. The humidistant reads 15% lower than every hygrometer I have in my home, but similar to my previous Midea. The "comfort" setting does a good job of keeping the humidity at a comfortable level in my basement without heating the room excessively. Note that dehumidifiers, by their nature, exhaust warm air. As for noise, I would not say this unit is "quiet". The unit puts out a great deal of "wind noise" that effectively drowns out the compressor and other mechanical sounds. So, if you don't mind "wind noise" you'll find it reasonably quiet. But if you do, then you'll find it noisy. About the pump. Pumps on dehumidifiers are designed to remove the top 1-2 inches of water from a full bucket, not empty the entire bucket. So I use the pump as a precaution; emptying the bucket morning and evening and allowing the pump to operate on days when the bucket fills quickly. One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that the pump filter has to be cleaned every 2 weeks. This requires removing the lid from the bucket and removing the screw that holds the pump in place and cleaning the filter. Once you get the hang of it, it isn't too difficult. The most difficult part is removing the plastic lid. If the unit were better designed this cleaning operation would not be so tedious. Emptying the bucket is pretty easy.

Works Well, Until it Doesn't.

Works well, except when it doesn't. We use this product in either our living room during really wet/humid days or in the basement to keep it dry feeling. At this the product excels and it relatively quiet, but some major issues need to be discussed. The app is nice and worked well for months until they no longer supported a 5Ghz network, why all of a sudden the change? The next is a major issue - the dehumidifier does not stop when it fills up, it instead sprays water out of the back all over the floor. Even when a hose is connected to the outlet drain the water comes out of another (emergency port?). Unacceptable and no fix from Midea. DO. NOT. BUY.

Runs Well, Mediocre Design, Not That ‘Smart’

I bought this unit to replace a 10 year old Frigidaire that finally was failing. A far as its basic purpose, the Midea is great, it runs well. It is very reasonably price, especially on sale. It is louder than my old unit, but not horribly loud. It has 2 speeds rather than 3, so that may be why it is louder. Set up is easy. Unbox it, pop in the wheels, plug it in, and let it run on Continuous Mode for 24 hours. This is to let the compressor oil settle. I don't like the design as much as my old unit. It is shorter but much wider so it consumes more floor space. I'd prefer a taller, narrower design. The tank is easier to remove on the Midea though. Its power cord is long enough, but shorter than my old unit, so if you want this more than 4-5' away from a wall, forget it without an extension. The display on top of the unit is simple and laid out well. While the humidity display is bright and large, the labeling for the buttons is a dull gray-white on a dark gray background. It is not easy to read (I have good eyesight). These are annoyances I can live with, as I don't plan to move it or change settings often, but it is a mediocre design. The unit includes 25' of pex so you can plug that in if desired and use the built-in pump to drain the unit (even upwards) to a sink, window, etc. As far as being 'smart', well yes and no. It has an app and it links to Amazon Alexa and so on. BUT all you can do is see/ask if the unit is on, or change the mode and humidity setting. You can not inquire about the tank being full. So, for example, if your tank is full and the unit stopped, and you check the app or ask Alexa all it can tell you is the unit is on 9as in powered on). So the advertised smart feature is very limited. I was hoping to be able to get an alert when the tank was full. I will probably keep it, but compared to my old unit it is mediocre at best.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received the Midea 50 Pint Smart Access Dehumidifier with Built-in Pump free of charge to test and review the product. It's been awhile since I used a dehumidifier, but the difference it has made in our house has been incredible. We live in a very humid area and even the air conditioning oftentimes has a hard time keeping up. After a few hours of running this dehumidifier, the whole house humidity decreased by 10%! Amazing! The Midea 50 Pint Smart Access Dehumidifier with Built-in Pump has some key features that are particularly attractive in my opinion. The wheels make it easy to roll the dehumidifier from room to room as needed. You can choose your fan speed - it can be loud if you are in the same room with it, but it easily fades into the background noise. The control panel gives you just the right amount of controls and is very intuitive to use. The settings allow you to select continuous run, dryer (which supposedly you can dry clothes with - I have not tested this feature out yet) and comfort. So far, we have been very well satisfied with the comfort setting. You do have to set your humidity in "set" mode - it's the only way to adjust it. The water tank has a large capacity which I greatly appreciate. It has cord storage, too! I have not used the smart app feature yet. I would give it more stars, but the pump stopped working the first time I used it. It emptied the water tank only halfway. I'll have to do some troubleshooting. I was impressed that it was able to pump the water into my kitchen sink while it was working. The manual was very informative on how to set up, use and care for the dehumidifier. The box even came with a cushion pad to install the wheels - very helpful as this thing is a bit heavy. I do wish it included the hose required to use the continuous drain method since it came with a pump hose. With a finicky pump, I'll probably just be emptying the water tank by hand.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I wasn't sure what to expect from the dehumidifier but this was the easiest set up. Just plug in, install the app on your phone, connect and you've got it working. Within a few minutes it was working to control excess moisture in the air. I appreciate how sleek it looks and the casters that allow easy maneuvering. I had been wanting to try a dehumidifier for the basement and I'm so glad I was sent this to review. The compartment that collects water is easy to remove and empty without spilling. The app allows for easy monitoring and any temp changes. I would definitely recommend for anyone in the market for a dehumidifier.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This dehumidifier does a great job of pulling the water out of the air and the bucket is constantly filling. However, there are several major design flaws to this unit. The water bucket is designed poorly where water is hard to pour out of the bucket and spills beyond the dump area when emptying the water. This unit also gives off a lot of heat when running, which isn't ideal for environments and small spaces it's meant to remove humidity from. We tried this in a closet and several rooms and there was always a noticeable temperature difference when walking into the rooms when it was running. The features are nice, it works well, however I wouldn't recommend it based on the heat it gives off when running and the challenge in emptying the water basin.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Midea sent me the 50 Pint Dehumidifier with to review. I live in the southeast where humidity is a big problem and it works fantastic to really get ALL the moisture out. It is quite loud when running so you'll want to consider that before putting in somewhere where you want to keep quiet. That said, noise level is fine considering it works really well. As others have mentioned, it is quite heavy, but it's expected considering this thing is built like a tank. That said, once you put it together you can wheel it around to the room you want it in. The smart home app feels a bit unnecessary when the machine just has one job to do, but that's probably more to do with the brand having a suite of products they sell. Overall, I recommend this dehumidifier, I just wish they allowed you to turn off the lights especially as i had this in my bedroom then moved it to the garage.
