A: This is rubberwood and the surface is painted. It can prevent mold. However, it can not be completely eliminated, and it is recommended to avoid a long time in the humid place.

WARNING! POWER TOOLS REQUIRED!
I rarely take time to leave reviews but in this case I most definitely will to warn anyone considering this stool. Do not purchase if you don't have a power drill. There is NO way to assemble without power tools and I wish I would have paid closer attention to the previous reviews myself. The holes are not fully predrilled. It is good and sturdy once assembled, but don't make the mistake I did and think you'll be able to pull it out of the box and put it together with a couple of screwdrivers. Good thing I purchased it on sale or I absolutely would've returned it.

Flawless assembly
Step stool resembles a piece of furniture. The only downside I found was the allen wrench that is provided. It definitely isn't sufficient for the assembly, I ended up using a ratchet which sped up the process.

-the holes were not pre-drilled -the steps are narrow, feels unsteady going up -only 2 pieces are labeled however- after a few swear words, she went together okay and doubles as a solid bench in my kitchen

Didn't get the right number of PH Screws
All I'm asking is to be sent the right no. of screws so I can finish assembling the stool!! Hopefully, somebody will get back to me, although it seems there are no means to communicate such issues for a fix (that's why I'm writing a review!).

Holes not predrilled
There are no holes predrilled for the hardware to attach the brackets that hold the steps, so that's 8 screws you will be trying to force through wood with a screwdriver by hand if you don't have a power tool.

It's very convenient as an useful tool in my Kitchen
First, it's quite easy to assemble, I only spend about 15 minutes to finish. Second, it's easy to use both as a step stool and a rack. And it fits in my kitchen, since it looks very nice. About sturdiness, I didn't feel any movement when step on it. It's a product which deserves recommended.

This was pretty easy to assemble by myself. Very sturdy and easy to open the steps. Comfortable to use as a seat, as well. This was a great purchase for our kitchen and we have used it everywhere in the house, it's that easy to pickup and carry.

Solid and beautiful
It's a beautiful and sturdy functional stair chair. It's a little higher than expected, higher than normal dining table chair. Overall assemble is almost effortless except step 2 in the assembly manual, you have to locate and drill some of the screw holes by yourself. We really love the beautiful wooden finish color of the chair.

Sturdy, pretty, highly functional stool
Very sturdy, useful stool that looks great, too! It takes some work to put it together (thankfully my Handyman uncle put it together for me), but assembled it's super solid. 4 yr old grandson particularly likes it to help out in the kitchen.

The directions to put stool together were skimpy hard to understand. In some places in which to place screws there were no holes and wood is very hard and difficult to drill. However once husband had it together, it is very attractive and sturdy. I like it.

Great stepstool which doubles as counter stool. Love the price, weight limit, look and sturdiness. The directions could have been more specific and there should have been packing on the pieces with the metal brackets as they were scratched and one of the brackets bent. Still a great value!

Product made of solid wood. The finish was correct and looks great. Kit came complete with no missing pieces. Instructions were complete and in picture form. When assembly stool is when problems occurred. The pre drilled holes were not correct. Several holes were not correctly centered, so when assembled stool not square. Also, some were not long enough and even with drill unable to fully set screw without drilling deeper. The top plate for the 2 small steps didn't have any pre drilled or marked areas for those screws. Even though these are small wood screws the need for steps to be centered then required a tape measure. The instructions only stated tools needed were a phillips screw driver and the included allen wrench. I ended up using a drill with attachments, tape measure, and wood glue. The assembly should have easily taken less than one hour but took much longer due to things not being pre drilled correctly. Happy with the finished solid wood stool, but assembly should have been much easier.

The instructions could use A LOT of work and better tools
Overall I am not happy with this stool. The directions leave a lot to be desired (aligning steps accurately with no pre-measured holes made aligning it VERY difficult). Further, give the size/shape and placement of the bolts, it was increasingly difficult to tighten them. The tool that was provided did not help.

Exactly what I wanted, but…
I still love the stool/step ladder, but, some attention to detail on the manufacture's part is needed. The steps were not pre-drilled, though not a big problem for us having tools, it may be for someone else. Lastly, there was a lack of packaging which led to the pre-attached hardware digging into, and damaging, the insides of the folding step side walls.

More narrow than expected but does the job
I purchased this for my pantry, wanted something short enough to stash under the first shelf and tall enough that i could reach the top shelf when standing on the top step. This totally does the trick, it's very compact but but I can reach the top shelf in our pantry with 10' ceiling. The folding steps are more narrow than I expected but still happy with the purchase.
