wanted a base that fits under a table. There is a small space (about 15 inches) between the legs so that people sitting at the table have room for their knees. This is nice, but it saves the trouble of getting a wider base. The first base I bought was too big. I tried putting that base outside the table because the umbrella would tip, but it wouldn't hold the umbrella up at all. I reordered and replaced it with this one. It is more expensive and heavier, but more fragile. It's easy to see that this base will break easily if not handled with care. Some people report that the base arrives damaged. Mine does not. My base is intact. It was easy to assemble, and with the help of a friend, we went outside to set it up. The first thing we noticed was that the pole was too thick for the handle. The base is a good design, though. There are two plastic pieces on the top of the handle that fit into each other and then into the handle. So we removed the inner plastic piece and the pole was completely assembled. It was still a little loose, but it was almost firmly fixed after tightening the screws. The base, while heavy, is only 13.7 inches in diameter. It is designed to be placed under a table, not on the side. So, the pole fits through the hole in the middle of the table and into the pole of the base, and everything looks good. If I were buying an umbrella stand to be placed outside a table, I would not choose this one and would go for something wider. If I were sure that this umbrella stand would stand the test of time and weather, I would give it a five-star rating instead of a four-star rating, but in my opinion, the materials may not be as durable. The description says that the material used for the base is cast stone, which is just a special form of concrete. Overall, it is not particularly attractive, but it is not ugly either. Placed under a table, I don't think many people would notice. However, I would store this base indoors in the winter and be extra careful when moving it. Finally, it is well worth looking up instructions on how to care for and clean cast stone.

This umbrella stand is beautiful and attractive. It is heavy enough to hold an umbrella but not so heavy that one person cannot carry it. Highly recommended!

I bought this for a patio umbrella over our dining table and chairs. It's very sturdy, heavyweight and a great value for the money. I've seen a lot of umbrellas that are a little more expensive but this one feels great to use. I love the simplicity of it, no fancy swirls, just a flat square piece of metal. The color also matches the brown metal of my previous umbrella perfectly, not that it really matters because you can't really see the underside of the table under it but it matches the umbrella I bought from another seller perfectly which is nice. It holds the umbrella well and is very sturdy. Also delivered very quickly. I highly recommend this product.
