The pixel squares do not absorb the marker as stated on the box. Would not purchase again

Thank you for sharing your honest feedback after using Crayola Wixels. Being you did not get the results you were expecting, your disappointment is understandable. We are sorry this product did not meet your expectations. The good news is that you can try again. For best results, we suggest moistening the board with a damp cloth before you start. After placing the color guide on the board and marking the colors, remove the guide and saturate each square with the ink for several seconds. Our team would like to learn more about your experience and get you back to creative play. Please contact us at 1-800-CRAYOLA. Hope to hear from you soon! - Chris, Colorful Care Team

Very small, much smaller than anticipated given the size of the box. Hard for my son age 6 to hold the guide in place.

Concentration Required

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Overall, my son enjoyed playing with the Wixels Animals Activity Kit. He loved using the color guide to dot the Wixel grid. Once that part was done, it was a little tedious to fill in all the little blocks. A few times, he accidentally got black on the lighter color blocks. Although we followed the fix an "Oops" instructions, not all of the black came out which was a little frustrating. Overall, a great activity for kiddos to build concentration and fine motor skills.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great activity set. My 5yo enjoyed the unique marker set. She really loved the challenge in following the guide and then the reveal: the finished product that looks really great. Best part, it’s washable. We would recommend this to any young child who loves art!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Crayola Wixels Animal Activity Kit is great for kids who love to sit and color/draw/craft. It’s a complete kit, so no extra purchases are necessary. It’s washable so you can rinse & repeat as much as you want. Personally my child couldn’t sit long enough to complete the kit, so I would say it’s geared more towards children who will take the time to sit and color/draw/craft.

Fun activity but difficult to clean

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My 3 year old LOVED identifying and matching the colors and did awesome with it! I know it is meant for older children but it’s right at his skill level! He only needed assistance holding the te plate still. Overall it’s a cute project but it takes a lot of pressure to saturate the wixels and then requires a LOT of time cleaning it under running water per the directions.

Cool concept, could be even better

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My kids enjoyed playing with the Wixels kit. The 11, 8, and 4-year-old all found it absorbing and entertaining. There is definitely something satisfying about working on it. There are a couple of pretty big downsides, though. The product is really small. We expected it to be more or less the size of a piece of notebook paper, but it was less than half that size (see attached picture with my hand for scale). It would have been fun to have a bigger space to work with. Also, the replay value isn't great. Once you have made one Wixel picture, your options are to either keep and display it or rinse and reuse it. But if you want to reuse it, it's not just a simple rinse. It has to soak overnight. At first I thought this would be great for road trips, but not so if it has to be soaked for several hours each time too want to reuse it. There's a good concept here for sure, it just needs some tweaks.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was fun to use but did take time. It’s a nice alternative to color by numbers especially because you can wash and reuse it. It’s also nice that they give you 2 options to leave from and then you can make your own. It just takes some time to get the entire tile to soak up the color. All in all this was fun to do!

Unique concept requires patience

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a very unique concept that my child was excited to try out. However, he lost interest shortly due to the time required and some execution problems. As for me as a parent, it was a little messy and I could see it being a frustrating activity for kids as young as six, requiring both patience and dexterity. Even when using the templates provided, only a small dot appears on the squares and you have to go back in without the template to apply pressure (and time!) to fully saturate each square and form the picture. Pros: - Reusable canvases that wash and dry easily - Cute templates to get started - Markers included - Unique concept, and I think children would enjoy creating their own pictures Cons - Takes a great deal of time, patience, and coordination. - Because of the suggested method to saturate the squares with the side of the marker, it’s very easy for the color to bleed into adjacent squares that are very small and very close together. - Requires a decent amount of pressure to get even saturation; seems like thicker markers may not be the best utensil for this project. - Canvases and squares are very small. - Templates move around and don’t stay anchored easily.

Create Your Own Pixel Art

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My 9 year old son was excited to complete this activity. He decided on creating the dog picture. The stencils lined up great with the larger squares in the corners to hold the template. He did not follow the directions but I still feel that his art work turned out well with some minor flaws. The first thing he did was to hold the marker longer than the 1 second to "soak" the pixel block while the template was on the board. The back the board now has extra dye. When we did then follow the directions we had a little black blend in with the sandy tan color of the dog. However, it is a really neat concept. I like that it is washable and then he can either try it again or maybe try his own design.

Too pixelated

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This seemed like a really cool concept. When we went to set up the wixel the template would not stay attached to the base. We ended up having to tape it down on the back. My 4 year old daughter and i used the markers and colored in the spaces. She was able to follow the colors on the template. The markers didn't seem to go through enough and were very light once the template was taken off. The picture at first looked like nothing, then from an angle, you could see the dog that we were trying to create. On the other hand, my 7 year old used the blank wixel board to make his own art that turned out pretty cool. Overall the concept seems really cool if they could fix the attachment part and putting thinner markers with the kits.

Perfect and Takes Time

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product is great for kiddos who need something that takes a little longer to do. This definitely is not a 15 minute project. It takes time to put all of the dots on using the stencils and then time to get the ink to be soaked up in each square. We found that rolling the marker on its side along a row of the same color did cut down on the time it took. We think it's really cool that this is washable and that we can use it more than one time!

Very disappointing. Small product, poor design. Expected more from a Crayola product. Package is large but actual product inside is very small. 6 year old grandson liked the concept but it is very time-consuming for such a small product. The cost ($15) is much too high in my opinion. No more than $8-9 product. Also difficult to use. The template overlay CONSTANTLY slips off the plastic piece underneath and becomes misaligned which can mess up the picture. I used a binder clip on one side to hold it in place, but that makes it not lay quite level which makes it a little difficult to color. Description on outer packaging makes it seem easy to wash off and reuse. Actual instructions inside say to soak overnight in soapy water and then use a brush the next day and blot dry. Very labor intensive for usage as well as cleaning. Not a product I'd recommend at all as it's unlikely to get used after the first time. A Crayola fail in my opinion.

We liked the wixel kit

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Overall, we liked the wixel kit. I love that it can be washed and used again. Only suggestion would be to have more contrasting colors for the animals. The dog with the black and blue the colors were so close they are hard to differentiate. I would also recommend a tiny clip to keep the stencil on the board

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My kids loved creating these. The best part is they can be used again and again. (All markers came off with rinse like stated it would.) Product states for 6 and up but my 3 year old just enjoyed coloring on dots even though she couldn't follow pattern as well. My 5 year old was able to follow patterns with no problem. My 8 year old was engaged. It was really refreshing to try a product that was unlike anything else we have at home. Would be great for car rides/trips if want to not have to carry many items. I look forward to purchasing more patterns in future.

Kept my daughter's attention

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I needed my children to be entertained for a solid half an hour. I gave them this project. My daughter, 6, was able to complete it and said it was fun. My son, 5, struggled with it. The age is 6+, so I'd say that's accurate. They really are washable, so that is great that it's not a once and done thing. My son said he wanted to just color the dots, he struggled keeping the template down. I think this product is great for a creative little artist!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is really neat especially if you have a kid that is into Minecraft. Or possibly other pixelated games. Otherwise, it’s very limiting and frustrating and they are very likely to switch to paper. It is cool that it is washable. The quality is great and it’s durable.
