Description

About the Book

"Cuestionando el iberocentrismo: Voces perifâericas en la Espaäna contemporâanea (Questioning Iberocentrism: Peripheral Voices in Contemporary Spain) conceptualizes an epistemological approach to the Spanish state from a non-ethnocentric perspective, aiming to highlight authors who have traditionally been excluded from the canon. This book addresses three fundamental questions: How can the nation be redefined from the margins? In what ways do migrant narratives demystify the dreamed paradise? To what extent does the displaced Other reclaim their identity in the host country? The five chapters explore the construction of national identity from the margins, analyzing a wide range of fictional and non-fictional works created by authors of African and Latin American descent. Through their self-representation, they challenge any discourse of homogeneity in the Spanish state. These cultural productions originate from various countries, cultures, and ethnic groups, tracing a synergistic trajectory through the diaspora and portraying a global Spain that rejects the imaginary of a homogeneous national identity. At the same time, Cuestionando el iberocentrismo advocates for the visibility and inclusion of Others as an integral part of the construction and redefinition of the nation. More broadly, this book seeks to foster a discursive debate to demonstrate that diversity does indeed have a place within the borders of all nations"-- Provided by publisher.

Book Synopsis
