HISTORY ASPECTS:
The Curtiss P-40B, also known as the "Tomahawk" or "Hawk 81A-2", was an American single-engine fighter aircraft that was used extensively in World War II. One notable unit that flew the P-40B was the 3rd Pursuit Squadron, also known as the "Flying Tigers", a volunteer group of American pilots who fought for China against Japan in the early stages of the war.
The 3rd Pursuit Squadron was deployed to China in 1941 and quickly gained a reputation for their effectiveness in air combat. They flew the P-40B extensively in their missions, which included escorting bombers, attacking enemy airfields, and engaging in dogfights with Japanese planes.
The P-40B was also used by the Royal Air Force's 112 Squadron in North Africa. They saw action in the Western Desert Campaign, providing close air support to ground forces and engaging in air-to-air combat with German planes.
Despite its limitations, the P-40B was a reliable aircraft that played a significant role in the early stages of World War II. Its distinctive shark mouth paint scheme and association with the Flying Tigers have made it a popular subject for diecast models.
Introducing the U.S Curtiss P-40B / HAWK 81A-2 3rd Pursuit Squadron, American Volunteer Group 1/72 scale diecast model. Experience the thrill of the Flying Tigers in action with this highly-detailed replica of one of the most iconic aircraft of World War II.
