HISTORY ASPECTS:
The U.S. Curtiss P-40B/Hawk 81A-2 (P-8127) was an American fighter aircraft that saw service during World War II. It was flown by the 78th Pursuit Squadron, which was part of the 18th Pursuit Group. The plane was used extensively during the early stages of the war in the Pacific, including the attack on Pearl Harbor.
The 78th Pursuit Squadron was stationed in the Philippines at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor, and the P-40B/Hawk 81A-2 was one of the few American planes that was able to engage the Japanese attackers. The squadron fought bravely against overwhelming odds, but ultimately had to retreat to Australia.
The P-40B/Hawk 81A-2 continued to serve throughout the war, and saw action in many other theaters, including North Africa and China. It was flown by many famous pilots, including the Flying Tigers.
