From the Back Cover
"Historical details provide a rich environment for Izzie's humorous household exploits, and the matchmaking attempts by the children and aunt add another layer to Turano's delightful romance, the kickoff for her American Heiresses series."--Booklist on Flights of FancyWhen Miss Poppy Garrison accepts her grandmother's offer of financial help for her family in exchange for Poppy joining the New York social Season, she quickly realizes she is far less equipped to mingle with the New York Four Hundred than even she knew. As she becomes embroiled in one hilarious fiasco after another, becoming the diamond of the first water her grandmother longs her to be looks more impossible by the day.
Reginald Blackburn, second son of a duke, is in New York to help his cousin find an American heiress who can help save his family's estate. But when his very proper British manners lead Poppy's grandmother to request he teach etiquette to Poppy, he quickly finds himself in for much more than he bargained for.
And while they couldn't be more opposite, Reginald and Poppy just might find they have more to teach each other than they ever could have expected.
"Set in 1885, this fun second installment of Turano's Heiresses series (after Flights of Fancy) introduces heiress Poppy Montgomery . . . . Series fans will enjoy this delightful romance."--Publishers Weekly
"The juxtaposition of the wealth of the New York 400 and the lives of those struggling to survive in the city provides a memorable backdrop to this combination fish-out-of-water and opposites-attract romantic comedy. . . . The strength of both main and minor characters shines brightly in Turano's fun romp."--Booklist

It's always a treat to pick up a new Jen Turano book! The cover is absolutely gorgeous, but more than that, one knows that there are surprises to be discovered inside. Diamond in the Rough is the second of Turano's American Heiresses series, yet totally can be read as a stand-alone. Nods to characters in her previous books make the reader happily take note.
Turano has again given us a heroine that is independent and spirited, and is a delight to know. Plenty of witty repartee between characters, as is characteristic of Turano's novels, fills the pages. The most amazing thing is the hilarious situations in which Poppy and her friends find themselves throughout the book. Those comical scenes amidst the stuffy high society atmosphere of 1885 New York City especially entertain the reader.
Fans of historical romance will delight in this book.
I received a copy of this book from the author, through the publisher, Bethany House, for review purposes. The thoughts expressed here are my own.

If any book should be turned into a movie it is this one. Jen Turano took my breath away. She had me laughing out loud and actually giggling in one chapter, and the next I was holding my breath in suspense. There is no possible way to guess where the story was going to go, and I enjoyed every moment of it. How Turano can make such interesting characters I’ll never know. And the dialogue is so funny and ridiculous at times that I can’t imagine how she comes up with them. I need more books like this in my life.
I love Poppy. She is so much fun to watch, and one can never guess what ruckuss she is going to get into next. There is just something about her complete honesty that is so refreshing. I loved watching the way her and Reginald interacted and how she exasperated him constantly. The secondary characters were so fun to get to know, and I was not ready to say goodbye. I can’t wait to see what Turano does next! I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read. The Historical aspect was so fun to imagine, and I felt like I was on an awesome adventure. I received a copy of this book from Bethany House Publishers and was in no way forced to post a review. All opinions expressed are completely my own.

Diamond in the Rough by Jen Turano is the second book in her American Heiresses series. Poppy Garrison accepts financial help from her grandmother for her family. In exchange Poppy must join her for the New York social Season. Trying to make Poppy into the crème of society is a challenge. There is trouble everywhere that she goes. Reginald Blackburn, second son of the Duke of Sutherland came to New York to help his cousin find an American heiress to marry. Because of his very British manners, Poppy’s grandmother hires him to teach Poppy etiquette. Will Reginald be able to turn Poppy into a Diamond of the First Water or is she too much of a Diamond in the Rough? This book is hilarious! I caught myself laughing out loud several times. Earning some strange looks from my husband! I loved the way Poppy never backed down from a fight but stood for what she thought was right. She wasn’t afraid of what people said about her. She stayed true to herself. Some of the situations that she found herself in were hilarious but she made the best of the situation and kept on going. We could learn a lesson from her. Don’t let the situation overcome you; overcome the situation!
I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
