Q: Can you put this in the bottle washer with steam?

submitted by Kat - 2 months ago
  • A: CLEANING: All parts are safe for use in dishwasher (top rack only), electric sterilizer, or boiling water. Be sure to remove wire cleaning brush from cup before cleaning and do not microwave the wire cleaning brush or the part of the straw that includes the weighted ball, because it contains metal. Remaining parts are safe for use in a microwave sterilizer. Avoid overly aggressive cleaning of any parts to prevent damage to sealing surfaces. The soft silicone straw can be thoroughly cleaned using the included wire brush, making it easy to access all openings.

Q: Can you microwave the bottle?

submitted by Tl - 4 months ago
  • A: Our bottles have been tested for microwave steam sterilization. However, we do not recommend warming the bottle in the microwave due to the risk of creating formula hot spots and overheating.

Q: Do they have to bite and suck so water can come up or just is this just like a regular straw?

submitted by yesliz - 6 months ago
  • A: The Dr. Brown's First Straw cup does contain an internal vent to prevent spilling. No biting is needed only a slightly stronger suck pattern.

This cup was recommended by our LO OT but after reading the reviews I was skeptical. If it wasn’t recommended by the OT I wouldn’t have gotten it because I didn’t like the reviews. The cup comes with NO instructions that tell you how to take it apart and put it back together. The straw comes apart into two pieces and it does detach from the lid. Then the handles detach from the lid and like most cups the lid unscrewed from the cup. I just bought my second cup after a month of having the first one. People complain about the cup leaking after there kid dropped it… well my lo throws it on the ground every time they are done with it. 6-10 times a day… Yes 2-3 time when they dropped it the seal opened and it leaked a little until I took it apart and washed it and put it back together no more leak. Also because once they suck up the liquid it will sit in the very top part of the straw a few drops can “leak” out if you tip it or they fling the straw but it doesn’t continue to leak. I do had wash it every night and we only use water in ours. It does come with a little mini straw cleaning brush. You do have to make sure it is dry before putting it back together. It is definitely not the easiest cut to clean. For me the great design that my lo can actually use is worth the extra effort for cleaning it. Once we are at the next stage of the cup it will be easier to clean. It was recommended for us after trying many other cups that my LO couldn’t drink out of. This cup they got the hang of in 2-3 days. I am so glad we tried it.

    A solid first straw cup

Pro: This was the only straw cup where water flow was good. Other brands required so much force to get water through the straw, it was even difficult for me. I also really loved the slide cover. Didn’t have to worry about losing or dropping a lid/cover. Cons: After months of use, lots of air bubbles started getting into the straw while my toddler was drinking. I don’t want my child swallowing all that air… Also, there are multiple pieces to the straw and weight that require being taken apart to clean. You also need to scrub crevices with a narrow bottle brush or mold will grow. Lastly, the handles have to snap into the lid in a particular way or the lid wouldn’t screw on which was annoying.

The endless search for the non-hideous go-to sippy cup continues, but this Dr. Brown’s straw cup is up there. The pros are that the colors are muted, the cup is clear, the weighted straw works well, and the downward-facing handles mean it can slip onto a stroller bar (essential). The cons: Difficult to clean due to multiple parts and thin straw, and thus, practical for water use only. And I am still a low-key beige parent so I wish there were more color choices. Overall, I lost one and went ahead and repurchased because the price point was good.

Absolutely NOT leakproof. You can visibly see the hole that the water leaks from so I’m not sure how some do not have a problem with leaks. My infant throws it around and it leaks everywhere. Even closing the lid does nothing

    Like these but they leak

    3 out of 5 stars
Rachel C - 2 months ago, Verified purchaser
These work well for babies learning to use a straw and up to toddler age. The weight at the bottom of the straw is helpful so that the straw will still work even if they tip it. These come apart and wash in the dishwasher very well. Only complaint is that they leak for a variety of reasons. Sometimes if the beverage is a drastically different temperature than the room it’s in, it will leak. Also if you put the top on too tightly it will suction the beverage out through the straw and leak. They also leak when tipped over.

Bought this only 1 month ago and the little ball was growing mold despite it be cleaned thoroughly every time after use and air dry before storing away. Im so disappointed in it cause my husband took it out to use for our 8 month old n notice mold in the cup this time. Not safe for babies to use due to that. Would not recommend. Momma's, save your money for a dif cup. Wish I would've taken photos. N when I asked my husband to he said he alrdy washed it. So I will take pictures and update the next time I see it again. But will not be using it anymore.
