Book Synopsis
Dream Receipts is a poetry travelogue of hallucinated journeys to Japan from author Mark Apel. Dream Receipts explore themes of escapism, depression, faith, shadows, daylight, night terrors, daydreaming, and the surreal beauty of an imagined Japan.
One evening in July of 2021, I found a literary passage into a foreign land. The land of Japan. I was in bed and then in the city of Tokyo. An unexplainable feeling of joy and dread fell over me. Now, after countless trips back and forth, the feeling is completely ordinary.
At this point, how long I was there or how many trips were taken is beyond me to tally. But, I have made many notes both during and after in hopes of at least recording something as evidence of my going. A proof of passage, so to speak.
The writings that follow are these notes.
